Hi,
Anyone know what back spacing was standard on a 15 X 7 stock Rally wheel
for 1971?
Considering a new set, currently have 14 X 6, might look at the larger rims.
Thanks

I'm not sure what the standard back spacing was on 15x7 rims but I know when my 15x8 rally set was made for the rear of the car that they were set at 4.5 inch back spacing.

i believe the backspacing for 15x7 & 14x6 is the same at 4 1/2".

I have a couple spare 14 X 6 at the warehouse.
Straight edge across the back bead & measure distance to the mounting surface. This will give me back-spacing?

Yes. Some of the 14 X 6's came on Regals, they would have 3 1/2" BS I believe.

Chris,
Who made your wheels for you? This the shop that recycles the inner spoked section & installs new outer rim?

>>Hi Steve,
My set of 15x8 rallys were made by McWheels on this board (and yes, he cut out the centers of some 14x6 rallys, redid them, and welded them into 15x8 new chrome rimshells). Check out this link for more info on him:

I know some people were not happy with him as he takes a while to get a job done but he did a great job on my set of rallys and I have no problems with them and the chrome rim shells look great as well. I have a set of the rare 1971 Buick super sport wheels that I am going to have welded into a set of 15x7 and another set of 15x8 for my car - will probably use McWheels again but I was also told to check out a local place on LI.

Chris,
Time is not an issue as the car gets stuffed away for Winter in a couple weeks. Shipping to/from USA will be an issue. Might pay me to buy a decent used set already in the US. Ship direct to rebuilder.
Cost effective to have them made/remade to stock 15 X 7 vs. new reproductions?

>>Hi Steve,
Yes, it was cost effective to buy the set from McWheels over new repros - I think that I paid around $280 for a set of 15x8 rallys.

From the article in the August 2002 Buick Bugle:
15x7 w/ 5 x 4 3/4" bolt pattern
1970-87 BS = 4 3/8"
14x6 w/ 5 x 4 3/4" bolt pattern
1965-67 BS = 4 1/2"
1968-72 BS = 4 3/8"
1973-77 BS = 4"
1978-87 BS = 3 1/2"
