So who here has built a GSX model kit?
I see a few on Ebay, I just wonder what color they come in?
Is the plastic body already yellow with some black stickers for striped to make your life easier or will I need a selection of paints???
Also heard you can find like performance upgrade kits sometimes?
Comes with real metal parts to replace some of the plastic ones in the kit?
Every Xmas we do crafts as a family and it gets harder and harder every year to find something fun to do. I suggest doing model kits ;) Snap together kits for some and some super glue for the ones who can't wait for the others.
Though I plan to do mine like a pro.

I have the ebay kit at home but didn't finish it yet. The plastic body is already yellow and the interior pieces are black. I'm basing the model on my car so I still have to get a spray can of burnished cinamon paint to change the body color. Don't know about any metal part upgrades though.

Here is one of them finished. They come in two different colors, depending on which version you purchased. Mostly in yellow. If you want the best finish you can get, you will still need to sand, trim, prime, paint, and polish it though.

How much you want for the yellow fender?
I built a couple of kits by Monogram / AMT several years ago, and with exception of the chrome and clear parts, the entire kit was yellow.
Made one into a regular GS.

I built this kit probalby 20 years ago when I owned my white X. The model could use a frame off restoration at this point. Maybe I can send it to Mark's shop.
John- awesome job on that GS:shock: Thats really good work!!....wow.
Ive got about 600 plastic model kits over here that need building!

Thats insane, did you copy a real car or are them the common rust spots?

600 kits? Of what? Looking for older caddy one that could be painted pink, mom is elvis fan.
Don't know about any metal part upgrades though.
I had the auction bookmarked but it says invalid item now.
But found a copy of it in my cache. Was a GS model kit.
"This kit includes a package ($12.40) of very thin METAL parts: hood grilles,in and out door handles, body logos, horn bar, rim parts, front grilles, license plate holder, etc.
these extra parts were made by PERFORMANCE DETAIL PRODUCTS"

The pro street GSX model also is white.. I am building one (during winter months) that I pirated the tubs and steam roller wheels from another car kit that will be what I want my racecar to look like. Need to get me a cowl hood for it though sometime...

Yeah, I loved going to Wal-Mart or Meijer to look at all the different model cars. Then one night I felt in the mood to make a model and noticed they didn't have anything anymore. I now have to drive like a half hour to the nearest Hobby Lobby to get them. I wish I still had my air brush kit, or I would buy the 70 GSX kit that they have. Maybe for Christmas

Yea only one we got is like that is like hr+ away on the side of town I never go.
Id like to be able to run to the store at 3am if need be for stuff.
Screwy that everyone dropped it. Bad enough they don't have the toy gun isle anymore. 1-2 full length isles of nothing but real looking toy guns.
I miss them days.

I don't have a camera, but I have built a couple of these. The Monogram comes in yellow, but the Revell is made in white. I bought a bunch of these off evil-bay a few years ago. I have one Monogram left--the plastic is gone but the parts are still sealed in the bag inside the box. I also have one Revell (85-2583) with the outer plastic intact. I am keeping these for now, but I believe the Revell is current, and the Monogram may be, also. I have to drive to Plantation--about 23 miles from my house--to Warrick's Hobby Super Store:
http://www.hobbysuperstore.com/
I have not been down there lately--no money--but they have all the kits and building supplies we used to find in K-Mart and WalMart in the day. The other (smaller) hobby stores around have mostly RC Airplanes and Boats. Some have trains--my other unaffordable hobby at this time--and Warrick's has so many I try to stay away from there, if you know what I mean.
I suggest looking on evil-bay all the time and you will certainly find some of these. I think I paid between $10-$20 for most of them. I bought one-each of the GN kits, also, and have them put away with the rest of the stuff I collect for building one day when I am fully retired. I figure that will be when I am about 90 given today's economy... .
Here are the ones out there now:

There used to be tons of these out there--maybe it is a slow time, but keep checking. You will find them, I am sure.

Thats the beauty of models, any color works, build it your way. I've been building and collecting for years. Any interest in a 66 Gran Sport Hardtop AMT kit? I've got a couple. Not cheap though

Man no one has crap in this town. Thought id venture out and double check local ones.
phone book list about 15 hobby stores but only 2 are still around.
[cept for dumb train only ones. Call it a hobby store but only sells train stuff WTF?]
And the ones who did have stuff had jack, maybe 20 models total.
Gotta use ebay I guess if you want anything decent.

Ok I done forgot how detailed these things are.
No way its gonna be a xmas eve craft that can be finished unless you slop it together.
And this was my idea.
Think Im gonna hafta send them back out for snap together ones to do.
Got lucky, the GSX kit I got is a 2 n 1, box had a gold GSX with dual 4s sticking out of the hood. Open the box to be suprised by 6 wheels and 8 rims in two different styles? Then I notice two hoods. But they did skimp on the decals, not providing a 2nd hood one for th standard GSX, just the one with a big oval hole.
But thats ok this one is going to be a photo neg of sorts, where it should be yellow, it will be black, where it is black, it will be yellow ;)
Though one question what about paint or paints???
If I remember as a kid trying to use regular spray paint would melt the plastic body sometimes???
Do I have to get them $9 mini spray cans of tertors paint or walmart 99cent spray will work???
Smartin

You have to paint the hood, from what I remember...but they have the yellow stripe decal that goes down the middle.
