I need to remove the thin lower chrome rocker molding trim on my 71, What is the procedure? How?

Step one is to carefully remove the phillips screws from the bottom side of the moulding. They are inboard of the lip and usually difficult to remove due to the road debris they are exposed to all of their lives. Next slip some masking tape behind the front of the moulding to protect the paint from damage as removal proceeds. Once you have all of the screws removed (6 on each side IIRC)then roll the lower lip outward starting at the back and working your way forward. After the mouldings lower edge is completely free from the rocker lift off of the retaining washers by lifting vertically close to the body line of the rocker. Doing so will minimise the possability or swisting and bending the moulding. After you have the moulding removed you can now access the round metal retainers that hold the moulding to the outer rocker panel. I think they are held in place by a 5/16" self tapping sheet metal screw. I have seen phillips screws on some cars. These are usually in worse condition than the screws on the bottom of the moulding due to their location and not having any way to be kept dry. Use care they could be rusted in place.

I hope that helps.
