I have owned a 71 riviera for 4 years. it was the first car i ever bought. It has g.s. emblems on it and the guy i bought it from said it was a g.s. but im not sure. I don't have the vin or title handy at this time because the car is in another state. It doesn't have stage one heads i checked that already and if it did the chrome air cleaner lid is long gone. I know the stage one heads do not mean its not a g.s. i read they only put them on select rivs or maybe they were dealer optioned. Is there a difference in the vin by chance? If i remember correctly it was built in flint where i think i once read that all riviera g.s.'s were built. Is this true?

It does have the big 12 bolt posi i know that for sure hehehe. And it does have air shocks if thats what they mean by a heavier duty suspension. Not sure about the TA in the engine code. I was considering parting it out but i wanted to find out if it was a true g.s. or not.

69 Stage 1 = RS
70 Stage 1 = SS
71 Stage 1 = TS
Dan is correct.....

TA is the correct engine code the 71 Riv GS and the Centurian with the higher outport 455 , TS is the the Skylark bodied GS Stage engine. Riv's used a different engine code for the GS option, which at times could have the bigger stage 1 valves. I came across roughly 5 of these in my yarding days and 4 out of 5 71's had the stage heads on them.

That was a great sight for info about the GS or not on boattials. Is there an area for earliers Rivs (66-70)? I have a 66 and am looking to pick up a 70 shortly.
Thanks,
Kevin
