I feel like this is confession;
BEAR w/ me....
Ok here it goes;

Well, I got a speeding ticket on the Interstate I-40 by the Tennessee Highway Patrol,
Last week Damn!

Now I know I was wrong here.......
However I did not realize it was 76 in a 55 MPH.
Heck, That's 21MPH over the speed limit.
I saw it as I asked to see it on his radar.
He escorted me back to his patrol car and I saw it, unless it was left over from his last stop?

A friend of mine told me they could have hauled me away to jail?
Agressive behavoir.
Yikes!
Anything over twenty miles per hour you don't collect and go directly to jail?
First I heard that one......Jeeesh................................

Ok, So the officer wrote down on the citation I was very compliant and never had any tickets before, as he checked me out on his radio...
He told me I should go to court and tell the judge I never had a ticket before and to show his nice comments he wrote on the citation, so that maybe I can go to traffic school.

No offense this officer was nice but really short in height.
His Smokey the Bear hat was bigger than he was !!!!
I was thinking possibly he might have 'short man syndrome'.
But I'm not a shrink or anything like that.....LOL
By the way, He was a youngie.

He asked me, "what kind of car is that?", as he pointed to my GS.
I told him it's a 1971 Buick Gran Sport w/ a 350 in it, but everyone wants the 455 Stage one.

You should have seen that look, he was so confused.
He looked at me like I was a martian or something.

Well, Now I have to go to court in April, and ye' don't like courts.
I can't imagine any one likin' court except if your gettin' paid or something.
So w/ that I hope, from above, I can go to traffic school and just plead guilty and just pay the fine of about 200 Bucks.

Heck I feel like it's Hazzard County, I can hear Waylon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRX4mlFi06A) now

The devil will be waiting as he points me to the door of the gates of fire, all because of my speeding in the "GS".

Scott,
Last time I was given a verbal warning only. Highway limit here is 110KPH. Road I was on makes a gradual turn & then slows down to 80KPH, on approaching an overpass. I was floating along at about 130 before the turn.
I see a sparkle up ahead, the sun on the Mountie's car. His headlights come on as he starts it up & then the red & blues! Here comes the chase.
I slid in just beside him on a small gravel rest area where he was parked. Turned the truck off & smiled. I knew I had seen him too late & so did he.
Just because I was nice & requested service in English politely, he was easy about it. We are officially bilingual here & government services are required to offer services in both English & French.
Had I requested service in either language & he was not able to offer it.......see ya later!

Well Stevey,

You were lucky....
If I'm lucky down here, The officer will not be there and possibly it could be thrown out of court.
I too turned the car off, and was very polite.
I was advised many years ago to do that, turn off the motor.

I guess it's not the end of the world!
Just pisses me off and feel like a criminal.

Say, I take it NB is New Brunswick?
To me it seems weird of the speed numbers you mentioned.
I am use to MPH's (Miles per hour) here.
I look at those numbers and say wow...110 and 130.
Those are NASCAR Speeds here! (MPH)

My only excuse is You need to blow the carb out once in a while, No Lie;
You know that...

Thanks,
Scott

NB = New Brunswick. Top RH corner of the map. Canada went to SI, System International, Metric late '70's.
Multiplier is 0.6214 or just 0.6 for easy math.
110kph X 0.6 = 66mph.
First couple years into it the local DMV issued small clear stickers with white numbers on them. One had 10, next was 20 ...up to about 100.
They were sticky back & were put on the speedometer over the mph increments in the cars. Pretty soon the factory speedo was in Metric.
Locally its very large numbers Metric, very small numbers in Imperial.
The US cars are very large Imperial, very small metric?
Check the speedo in your car.

A friend of mine told me they could have hauled me away to jail?
Yikes! Anything over twenty miles per hour you don't collect and go directly to jail?

for simple speeding, "take me away to jail" time doesn't happen until you're 36 over. and even that is at the discretion of the cop. of course, at 25 over a cop can also write you for "Reckless" and normally other things as well at his discretion, so they can stack pretty fast.

if they start assessing other infractions they can take you away pretty much anytime they feel like it. i was riding shotgun in a buddy's car in MI and he got pulled over for a headlight being out. when the cop asked for his DL, we all found out that Lou had forgotten it for this trip ( yes, VERY stupid, but he had a habit of taking his DL and ~$50 out and leaving his wallet when he was doing non-business driving. this time he forgot to get his DL when he left his wallet. using your wallet to store 75+ business cards is also very dumb, the damn thing was 3" thick ). Lou rattled off his license # ( he keeps a ridiculous amount of numbers memorized ) so the cop went back to his car and checked it. he came back and told Lou that his license had expired the previous week. :Dou:

at this point, the cop handcuffed Lou, put him in the back of the cruiser and had me follow them back to the county seat where i had to post bail. :Dou::error::Dou::error::Dou:

after replacing the bulb, i then proceeded to drive us the rest of the way back to Elkhart, IN from Hillsdale, MI.

Lou renewed his license and drove back to Hillsdale. showed them his valid Indiana DL ... and they dropped all charges.:Dou::shock:

seriously, WTF? this is enough of a situation that you 'have to' ( for "both of our safety" was the quote from the cop ) handcuff, fingerprint and process a guy? for a headlight violation + an expired license? for something that you'll drop the charges for at the drop of a hat? what is wrong with people? they didn't even collect any court costs or fines.......

anyways, always contest / plea bargain / take any alternative schooling measures to keep tickets and points off of your record.

First I'll point out that all states are different ... and all state, county and city police departments naturally have to comply with the state's laws. You should ask the court where the fine will be handled (by calling ahead) if they have "deferred adjudication" or something like it. I got a speeding ticket two weeks ago on the interstate by a city PD for 74 in a 60. The city did have deferred adjudication which means that I ended up payng $25 extra over the fine (of $195) and all I have to do is NOT get ANY tickets in THAT SAME jurisdiction for 6 mos ... and the ticket never gets reported to the state to go on my MVR. The "deferred" means that the ticket only gets reported IF you screw up in THAT city again in a specified time frame ... if you do not get another ticket in that city, then the ticket just "goes away". If you have this option available, you can usually alternate between "deferred adjudication" and "traffic school" (again, if allowed and subject to other conditions) and "handle" the tickets so they do not effect your driving record. In my home state, the local cities and counties set the terms for the length of time one has to be "ticket free" for the deferred adjudication proces ... some places as long as 18 mos. Now, I haven't had to do this much ... but, it has been a bad last year ... ticket-wise. But, hey, I have a "clean" driving record. The point is that you have to ask ... no one there has an obligation to tell you squat.

So...I pass this area every day.

It'll be fine (Pun)

I expect about a $200.00 fine.
Man it has been so long since I got a ticket!

Well, I use the law degree (& bar admission) for other work reasons. I'd rather talk about your "neck of the woods". I used to live in Dandridge for a little while when I was a kid - loved E. TN & W. NC. I have a bro who lives/works in Oak Ridge (Lab) - love it there, too. I see from your header that you previously lived in San Jose (Bay Area). I lived in Clayton (N. E. Bay Area, around Moraga ... Lafayette ... Concord, etc.) until 'bout 2002. Were we out there at the same time?

TX.

I was out in the Bay Area from '93 to '95 and then '97 to '02 - due to job transfers back and forth. There was no shortage of really fun things to do out there ... the weather. But, none of my family was out there ... and I swore to myself that when I had kids, they would be able to have access to/relationship with their Grand Parents ... as I did not and wanted to (my parents lived too far away growing up). I really do like the different parts of the country (I know there are places not too far from you now where that is spelled 'kountry') ... even though none of the other places seem as mild (weather) as Cali.
While I was out there, I had a commute all the way to Redwood City for about a year ... and then Pleasanton and finally in Concord. It was a great place to be fresh out of college, newly married and without kids. In a nutshell, life and responsibility have a way of making one eventually see things and prioritize la ot differently ... and while my then (stay at home) wife seemed to have a great time (weekly) in Napa (30 mins away) and ALL the endless other places to go, I decided to try to move closer to family (my older Brotherwas just starting his family) in TX in '95 and my Brother moved back to TX as well (our plan) so he could work on that Super Collider project in Waxahachie (TX). Congress built 75% of it and pulled the funding ... my Brother got transferred to Oak Ridge (TN) and I got moved back out to Cali. So much for that family plan. I have visited my Brother many times ... I bet we (you and I) have driven around each other many times ... at two different years ... at two different ends of the country ... errr 'kountry'.
