Well it was a beautiful Sunday in N.Y. with the promise of 75* temps, and there was a car show down at a North shore beach, so I thought I would bring the GS out and show it. I had just installed my MSD digital 6 with the ignitionman's magnetic trigger conversion:TU: I used the accel 8140 yellow coil and painted it black for the stealth look. I started the car and it was running sweet. Got on the highway and all was fine until I got off of exit 37 and slowed for the light, As I was just about stopped, the car shuddered and stalled. I pushed it to the curb and started to troubleshoot. Worked the throttle, plenty of gas, no fuel problem. Pulled the coil wire and positioned it 1/2" from a ground. Pulled the distributor connection and shorted the box end with a jumper(this according to MSD instructions)and unshorted it. Saw 3 sparks jump to ground. Reconnected everything car started and ran for 3 minutes and died again. Checked for spark again, this time no spark. Called my good friend Ron and his trusty trailer and towed her home. Replaced the coil with my Stinger original, car started right up and ran great again. I called Dave and had a great conversation with him. He seemed to think this coil was a fluke, and that the Accel coil was a good one. I can't return it, because I painted it, so I went out and got the chrome MSD blaster 2 part# 8200( the other coil Dave recommends). Car is running great again, but I spent the entire day making sure the GS was OK. This is the second time I have had a problem with Accel products. The first time I bought one of their blueprinted HEI's. It had a bad pickup coil, that alternately left me stranded in my 72 Skylark in the 1980's. Finally replaced the p/u coil after changing just about everything else in the distributor. I don't think I will take another chance on Accel products. Thanks for letting me vent guys.
