Are the shoes backed off with the starwheel. Did you remove the bearing and nut. Only asking cause I forgot once. A gear puller works as well.

Hit him with the hammer!!
Make sure the starwheel is backed out all the way as mentioned above. You can give it a few wacks with a hammer and see if it breaks.. loose I mean.. :gt: You can also take a strong set of cutters and cut the end off the shoe retaining pins.
I'm sure someone will come along with a sure-fire way.. :TU:

to beating the crap out of it as I have a new one ready to go on in it's place. Hell I may have to weld that bastard off, it aint budgin'.
Would convert to disc but I only see me putting 2-3k miles a year on her since it's not a practical daily driver in this city!!!
On my old hardtop daily driver, it was a ritual every 20k miles, front friggin drum shoes!!
Thanks again!

We always just hit 'em with hammers to get 'em off. The cars were never quite this old though... oldest was an '85.

I had this happen before and I just kept hitting it and it would not come. Finally I sprayed WD-40 on the threads of the wheel studs. I waited a while and just kept beating on it and it finally came off.
Good Luck,

i know what your talking about!
I have to say, you really sound like a squig when you tell people you can't get your front drums off. But in addition to my mechanical advance, my 2 buddies who are ASE certified could also not get them off.
OK, you ever hit something with a 5lb sledge hammer, and get no results.
I probably gonna have to heat them up ALOT to get them off, with a combination of WD 40, and ma slurdge

I've had to file and grind releifs into a rear drum and then use a gear puller to get one off.
If it's the front, drill (CAREFULLY!) out the shoe spring retainers and back the star wheel off all the way.

Try letting the WD 40 soak even if it means over night . The worst thing to do is throw something or break something else. When I was a kid I would do some stupid things. The best thing to do is be patient and if you get mad like I used to, take a break. It is the same thing people should do in there life. People do crazy things when they are mad.:blast: :blast:

I normally have to cross the line between caring about the drum and just angry vengeance.
Show it who's boss, or die trying.

1. Put on steel toe boots.
2. Sit on ground with feet facing drum
3. Kick left side of drum with left boot.
4. Kick right side of drum with right boot.
5. Repeat 3 & 4 at high speed (not necessarily with alot of power) for 2 minutes. If it takes longer please e-mail me, it'd be a record.:TU:

I'd be all over that but I'm not as young as I used to be & there are 2 discs in my spine that would not appreciate it!!
Gonna try WD40 & a rubber hammer first!
Thanks Y'all

Rubber mallet probably won't cut it.

That's what I was thinking. I'm more into the kind of hammer that did this:
