I have a 455 in my Skylark, and have been running an aftermarket fan. I bought a 7 blade clutch fan and installed it yesterday. I have a repo 455 fan shroud (rough fiberglass) from YO that I purchased 8years ago that has been in the car. The new fan contacts the top of the shroud opening. If I space the radiator up 1/4" I have proper clearance. I am considering a new repo shroud from the Parts Place (plastic). Is the fit better on the new part?
Thanks

Th shrouds are year specific. What shroud do you have? 71-72 shroud was bigger than 70 shroud. 71-72 used bigger shroud because they used a bigger 20" 5 blade fan. 70 used a smaller 18" 7 blade fan. Also the rubber mounts on the core support have some affect on this as does that body mounts under core support. Mix and match and you have trouble. Thicker mounts under the core support will raise it some.
It is easier to modify the fan shroud,,,, I fabbed one up from scratch for my 65 lark gs... you can usually raise one up by molding some fiberglass ''bumps'' on the bottom side of the mounting points... take a hard look at modifying the shroud or even another shroud before you start moving body panels around , because that approach can be a real can of worms....

I have the 1970-72 shroud(this is the way it is listed in the old YO cat), I do not know the fan or shroud diameter but will find out. The body panels have been aligned and I am very pleased with their fit. By spacing the rad up a quarter of an inch I gain the clearance. I notice the fiberglass shroud top looks to be 'graffed' on the sides. The opening looks round, but I wonder if the whole opening is set lower than it should be. Is the PPlace shroud available for 72 with the larger diameter opening?
Thanks for your replies.
