so i took my other carb appart and once i scraped all the corrosion off the base plate i discovered this. it looks like it is supposed to be there but i just want to find out for sure. i havent done enough old school afbs to know for sure. thanks

No, it's not. That is severe corrosion, and the carb will probably have to be built up with dev-con or something like that. It will have a vacuum leak on the throttle shafts if you look at it closely. Either that or get another base plate. I'll bet the spacer plate underneath is rotted out too.

thanks man. the problem is this is the better of the 2 afbs i have. ill probibly just fill it in with jb weld if its not supposed to be there for sure. are you 100% positive? it really does look like its supposed to be there.
