With NOS lenses going for $100 each, these lenses will really help us out. I bought a set of these lenses a couple years ago, and the quality is great. I told him that 20 sets shouldn't be a problem, so please post how many sets you plan to buy (don't forget to inlcude year)... I will be buying 2 sets myself. The lenses come clear, so the silver paint is up to you. I will post pics shortly. Here is the latest email:
"Dan, am still awaiting product as supplier was supposed to have moved to larger premises Dec 02 to allow an increase in production.
Move is currently underway and we should have product in July, if all things work out OK.
Will be shipping bulk 65 and 66 front Lens to LA for distribution ASAP.
Will let you know who to contact when items are shipped.
Bulk discount will be offered to you at that time."
BTW the lenses are from Australia! HTH

Mark-
I will email him regarding the price. I'll post the info as soon as I get it. I think I paid $60 for my set a couple years ago. (But don't hold me to that price....)
Spread the word, I know there are more 65/66 owners than you and I....
I thought there would be more interest. At least I'm excited...

Dan,
Sounds good - keep us posted. I can't believe no one else has responded to this either.
I know there at at least a half dozen other 65 owners on this board, maybe more. Maybe you should put this in the "Bench" section, and do a poll or something.
It's a lonely outpost being a 65 owner compared to the 70-72 crowd.

Sorry I have been out of town... Here is the latest email:
"Dan, the 66 lens is only half the size of the 65 and will be a few dollars cheaper.
I cant give an indicative price yet as I need to get the bulk freight cost to the West Coast and that will depend on the total weight/volume."
I'll will keep everyone updated on the status of these lenses.

No word on price yet. The more we can buy as a group, the cheaper they will be.
***This is only a verbal commitment, so if the price ends up being way too high, then we simply won't buy them...***
I'm hoping for a price around $60 (for '65 lenses -- the '66 we be cheaper), but it is not up to me... But think about the price if these lenses went up on ebay $$$$$$$$$...

I got your email the other day, and I haven't forgetten you!!!! I have been very busy... Anyway I think the Sportwagon's used lenses from the Special??? THANKS FOR YOUR RESPONSE. I THINK '65 LENSES ARE THE SAME--BUT NOT SURE. MINE LOOK VERY SIMILAR TO THOSE PICTURED ON A PREVIOUS THREAD, BUT SCREW HOLES ARE SPREAD NEAR THE SIDES. MY LENSES ARE ABOUT 8 1/2" WIDE x 1 3/4" TALL. SEE IF THIS MATCHES.
ALSO, I HAVE BEEN HUNTING FOR SOME AFTERMARKET DOOR SILLS FOR MY SPORT WAGON. ALL THAT SEEMS TO BE AVAILABLE IS FOR COUPES. DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I'm probably 10 years out for working on my '65 :( but if it helps having more in the order, count me in now. I know I'll need 'em eventually!
I have a 65 Special and 65 Sportwagon as parts cars. My wagon has the same bumper as used on the Special. Definitely different than that on the Skylark.
Was there a difference between the lens for the Skylark and the one for the GS? (My car isn't going to be original anyway, so it doesn't matter to me for ordering, just curious).
Thanks!

Since I found the 4-door, the whole car is kind of an extra to me. I was thinking of posting it for sale, just hadn't decided yet. Its not in the best of condition; I rescued it from a junkyard 5-10 years ago. I drove it for a while after doing a motor swap (bad 300 to good 300). I bought a second Sportwagon about the same time I picked up this one. I cut a lot of metal off that second car to potentially repair dents on this one. I saved all the glass, trim, lenses, and 9-pass seat parts from that one too.
I don't really want to deal with parting it out; all or nothing if I let it go. If you're interested I'll try to get some pics of it. Winter's setting in & once we have good snow cover, it ain't coming out of where its parked 'til after spring thaw has dried up.

I have sent Len Bentley <benderbrew@aol.com> a stock of 66 Front Indicator Lens as this will reduce the unit cost to you guys.
The 65's are still in the pipeline due to the need to produce a much better mould for the required quantities.
The ones I originally had done where acceptable but the shape acheived due to the size of the lens with the flexible type mould was not consistant.
You would never know when the lens where mounted but in the hand they where not quite the quality I was after.
I was hoping to have some 65's in hand at the WCN in Las Vegas Oct 8-9 but it looks like later in the year.

Greg,
Did you pick up a '65 project car?
83Stage1
02-25-2005, 03:53 PM
I've had a 65 2-door sedan (base Skylark, not a GS) for 10+ years.
I tore it down years ago to start a restoration on it. To keep a long bitter story short, my then-wife was all for the project until she realized that I'd be spending money. After that she had a royal fit every time I turned a wrench & it ended up just sitting. We divorced a couple of years later, but I haven't restarted work on it. Frankly, I still get PO'd every time I try; the old scars reopening...
Current projects are a remodel on the garage and the project 66 pickup in my signature. Garage'll be done this summer. When the pickup's done I'll look at the Skylark again. I'm with a wonderful woman now; more supportive than I could ever imagine, and a car buff to boot. She intends to make new memories around the Skylark by it being "our" project for her to learn on. She wants to do a 68/69 GS for herself, so you know she's a class act!!

Ok 65 owners, here we go again....
Last week I paid through the nose for a NOS 65 parking lens. I'm not complaining since it may potentially go towards a really good cause.
Today I drove over 7 hours to hand deliver this lens to a gentleman that specializes in plastic injection molding. I also handed him a set of back up light lenses for a 65. He is working up the quotes and I should have something in about a week.
I know there is still quite a demand out there for some affordable yet high quality lenses (I'm one of them) and these promise to be exact reproductions made from modern high impact and UV resistant plastic.
These would be a set of replacement lenses nice enough to allow you to remove and store those nice NOS lenses you have installed today and not worry about stone chips when you drive your car.
Let's face it, even if you found a NOS set of lenses for $80, how many times will you hold your breath thinking about that 40 year old acrylic plastic sitting out there in the elements?
I purchased one of the other lenses mentioned in this thread from GMObsolete hoping that they'd be nice and correct enough to justify the purchase of several more.
It wasn’t a bad lens (better than what I had at the time) but it was obviously not a mold injected part. It looked like a very brittle cast resin part. It was also very clear that the original from which the mold had been made from, had been repaired and slightly modified. All of these repairs and modifications were transferred to the cast part.
It may be due to the thin walls or brittleness of the part but for some reason they also bonded an extra steel and plastic reinforcement panel on the top of the lens. This might help stabilize the part a little better, but I would've really like to have had something more authentic,
especially at $70 a single lens (plus $20 for shipping!).
There were also many obvious and large pits caused by air bubbles not escaping during the casting process.
I want to make note that I’m not knocking the part since it’s better than anything out there today that I've seen, I’m only trying to get a sense for the demand for a much better part and if the demand can support the cost associated with delivering it.
As for the back up light lenses, I don’t know of anyone attempting to reproduce them.
If the demand is still high enough and it's cost effective to move forward, then I'm prepared to do it, however we are talking about a large chunk of money (I’m looking at about 9k just for the tooling).
So here we are... I need to ask for another count of anyone out there needing either or both parking light and back up reverse light lens sets.
I'm trying to get an idea of what a reasonable price would be for these to keep them accessible and affordable to those who need them while still getting some reassurance that I'm not going to lose my butt on this.
Is $40 a lens ($80 a set) reasonable for the fronts?
How about $40 a set for the rears?
Even at $80 a set, I'd need to sell at least 50 sets of the fronts just about 100 lenses to break even.
This would be 100% clear part like the original and would require the purchaser to paint it the correct silver color on the back side as the factory did. I think it's best that the purchaser do this anyhow since all of the NOS lenses I've ever seen have the paint scratched up from sitting around. Delivering them this way would insure that the paint was nice and fresh and scratch free when you were ready to install them.
With this said, should I also find a source for small cans of correct color silver paint and offer it as an option? IF so, would $5 a can (enough for two lenses) and a masking template sound reasonable to take the leg work out of finding this yourself?
How about gaskets for these lenses... needed or not?
Everything mentioned above would be delivered at close to actual shipping costs with maybe one or two bucks added in to cover the cost of the box and packing materials.
I'm not looking to retire or get rich from this project, just provide some much needed and correct looking plastic to the 65 community and hopefully recoup my full tooling, material and production costs.
Any extra money made from this project would eagerly be welcomed by my paint and body man and go towards really good use on my 65 GS HT project. :Brow:
If we can pull this together, hopefully I can deliver some much needed parts in enough time for Spring.
If you don't feel comfortable posting a public response, please feel free to send me a private email.
Thanks,
Chris

Yes, I'm still interested in a pair of front lenses, and a pair of back-up lenses.
Pricing is very reasonable.
There seems to be more interest in the early 65-67 GS's than there was just a few years ago....so it may be worthwhile making extra parts for future demand.
You may also want to contact a vendor like 'the parts place' to see if they are currently planning on repo'ing these, or would consider buying them for resale.
Let us know how it goes!

Bad news & Good news,
The cost of mold injecting the front parking lenses is pretty scary.
The cost of tooling and production at a resell of $40 per lens would mean that I would need an absolute guarantee of selling at least 148 sets just to break even.
The last tally for lenses in the forum was in the 30 set range so I'm only about 110 sets short. :eek2:
I could only do this if I had enough people sign up first and send in a partial payment or deposit.
Another way to look at this, if there is not enough demand to cover at least 148 sets at $80 a set then how about 116 sets at $100 a set?
At the time I give approval, I must put down half the costs for tooling and in 2 - 3 weeks I'll have a first piece sample.
If I approve the sample, the order will be run and they can have the entire lens order ready for pickup in about 2 - 3 weeks after that.
Now the good news.. :TU:
The license plate lenses were not as expensive to have made and the tooling was almost half so I've decided to go for it.
I've went ahead and gave the company the go ahead on making 250 sets of license plate lenses (now I just hope I can sell them).
As a reminder, these will be exact reproductions made with modern materials. They are American made injection molded parts. They will be formed from high impact poly carb and contain UV protection.
I'm hoping that these will give everyone an indication of the quality of the parts and also give me a good indication of what the parking lens market might look like for the 65.
I'll be asking $30.00 a pair plus reasonable shipping for any member of this board.
I'm spending our personal money on this project so there will be an urgency on my behalf to replace the investment as soon as possible (things are better at home with my wife that way).
To help replace those funds a little quicker, I intend on putting some of the first sets on EBay to help my bank account recover.
I'm going to let the laws of ebay supply and demand take the prices where ever they may go, however I promise that as long as a V8 Buick board member is buying these for personal use and not resell, you are guaranteed a $30 price.
I hope to have a first piece sample in my hands in a couple of weeks. When I get it, I'll scan it and share the pictures in this thread.
FYI - I had the injector quote the rear lens gasket and they would've been almost $9.00 a pair to produce so I dropped it.
So.. Who’s the first in line on these license plate lenses? :Brow:

I've received the samples for the reverse light lenses and all I can say is WOW!
Take a look for yourself;
http://www.gransports.com/images/my_lenses.jpg
These are quality American made, mold injected parts. I've held these up to a NOS set and I had to be very careful not to mix them up as I could not personally tell the difference.
I'm keeping my word and offering these to V8Buick.com members first at a reduced price.
Any member that contacts me reserving a pre-order (no money required) between Feb 2nd through March 2nd can purchase a set of these (for personal use only) at $36 a pair + S/H.
I'd originally underestimated my material and mold costs, so the final parts ended up costing me more than I'd expected.
$1.00 per every completed pre-order sale will go to V8Buick.com and help support this site.
*This special price is for member personal use only, NOT RESALE! One set per member owned 64 - 65 GS / Special or Skylark please!
This is simply my way of paying back the board and its members for giving me the idea and encouragement to take on this project.
I expect to sell these to the "public" at around $50 a set.
I've decided that if I can sell 750 sets, this will cover my production costs and turn enough profit to put a sizable dent into funding the much needed 65 Skylark / GS parking lens project.
I'm figuring a flat fee of $6.50 per set for most single set US shipments (for combined or non - US orders please email me first for a quote).
I'm not asking for any payments yet, just lining up any member pre-sales.
A close friend and fellow board member will be offering a gasket set for these lenses (price TBD) if anyone out there is interested?
Please submit your interest for these gaskets with your pre-order.
Thanks,

All,
Just waiting on a ship ready date on the lens's and gaskets.
It looks like the gaskets will run $6.50 a set and I'll get you some pictures of them as soon as I recieve a sample.
If you order the gaskets at the same time as the lens's, S/H for the gaskets will be included in the S/H costs for the lenses ($6.50)
Example:
Lens set at V8 Board price - $36.00
Gasket set - $6.50
S/H for both - $6.50 (might be less as I'm looking for smaller, less expensive and lighter weight boxes and packageing)
$49 total ($1.00 goes to this fourm)
As soon as I have a ship date I'll let everyone know. It shouldn't be more than a couple of weeks.

Hopefully you all are just excited as I am to finally be getting these parts for our 65's?
We've worked very hard to bring you parts deserving of your beloved Buicks and I can't wait to hear your comments regarding the investment in quality.
Hopefully everything will go well and interest will be high enough to partially fund the much needed parking lens project (and hopefully a couple others). :Brow:
Won't be long now...

I've received the samples for the reverse light lenses and all I can say is WOW!
Take a look for yourself;
http://www.gransports.com/images/my_lenses.jpg
Thanks,
Chris@65GS.com

A couple of things I should be more clear on.
The front lens project is something still to come, maybe a year or so and only if the reverse lens project works out.
It's really awesome to hear that the interest is still there for the front lenes and this will be very important in helping me make the decision of whether or when to take that project on, but for right now I can only deliver the reverse lenes for the 64 & 65 Special / Skylark and GS.
The Skylark and Special used two different sized lenes. I believe the Special lens was shared with the Sportwagon in 65.
I'm sorry if this has caused or created any confusion.

Ok guys.. I'm gonna stick my neck out here and move forward with the 65 Skylark / GS parking lens project.
Here are the details:
I need to sell at least 125 sets in order to make this project work out...
These will be high quality mold injected parts painted and ready to install.
$55.00 per lens / $110 per set plus $8.00 S&H (for the pair)
I've asked my supplier to try and have 30 sets ready in thirty days so I'll have some to sell at the Bowling Green GS Nats.
He's going to try and hit this deadline and says that he can have another 170 sets ready 15 days from then.
Please drop me an email if you're interested.
EMAIL ME - CLICK HERE (Chris@DamnGoodAutoParts.com)
I'd like to try to gauge how close I'm going to get to the 125 set mark.
So... is everyone ready? God I sure hope so..

We'll soon be able to call the 65 Skylark Parking lens project complete and ready to ship.
I took a couple of test shots to the GS Nats for review and all of the 65 owners that I showed them to seem to be really excited about finally having these available and the quality in which we'll be able to deliver them.
"If you seen these in BG, please feel free to provide your honest opinion on them".
We've decided to have them molded in Polycarb instead of the less expensive acrylic plastic. This is the same material that safety glasses (eye wear) is made of and it will last longer and be far better at taking hits from road debris.
We are now working on getting the mold "dialed" in and we are trying to match the silver paint as close to possible as the original.
I should have these ready for shipment in a week or so and We'll be offering these for direct sale at $110.00 a set plus shipping and handling (I still need to weigh a set and add up all the shipping materials).
I've mentioned this before and I don't mean to sound like a whiner, but I have a lot of money wrapped up in the tooling to bring these lenses to you and I'll be selling them on Ebay in an effort to recoup my costs as quickly as possible. I have no idea what these will bring, but please do not bid on them unless you are willing to pay more than the $110 direct price that I'm extending to all my V8Buick.com brothers out there.
Pictures, shipping costs and ship date.... soon to follow... :beer

As of August 1st, I should have enough inventory to start filling parking lens orders and I'll start accepting your orders then.
I'm currently running about 15 pilot sets on Ebay right now at no reserve. I have no idea what these will go for and please don't "chase" them unless you are willing to pay more than the listing price I'm providing below.
As promised, I'm selling these at $110 a set and S&H will be a flat rate of $12.50 as long as they are shipped inside of the USA.
We also have parking lens gaskets for $13.50 a set and S&H is included if purchased and shipped with the lenses.
The parts are simply amazing and we decided to spend the extra money and have them mold injected in Poly Crab (the same material used to make safety glasses) so they'll have a long life, excellent UV stabilization and high impact rating.
As of Aug, 1st you'll be able to purchase these directly from my website (any major credit card or PayPal) www.DamnGoodAutoParts.com or you can send a money order / cashiers check to:
Chris Horn
2011 Pine Lakes Drive
Lima, Ohio

Feel free to send me any questions that you might have.
Thank you,
Chris
