I have a (new to me) 69 Skylark Convertible and I'd like to change the oil pan gasket and clean the screen. Do I need to lift to motor, or can the pan be removed without it?

Thanks,
Dave...

I don't think that there is enough clearence to get the pan off, because of the frame, but I have never tried it before. There might be enough room.

You need to unbolt the cross member & slide it back to reach a couple bolts.

Unbolt the crossmember for the oil pan?? Transmission, maybe.

If you have a single exhaust, it needs to be disconnected from the manifolds.

The trans inspection cover comes off.

Starter gets removed.

The wire harness that goes to the starter has to come out (I think, maybe that's just a big block).

Unbolt the two big bolts in the engine mounts.

Remove the cooling fan.

Raise the engine up enough to slide the pan out. You can let it back down on the mounts while you are cleaning/repairing.

:Dou: Thanks. I guess it's not going to be the 30 minute job I hoped it would be. Oh well, it will just take a bigger cigar and more beer. :TU:
