just wanted to know if there is a date code on a 455 block and were it would be

It's on the front of the block, below the alternator, behind the timing cover.

Marco, You are forgetting. Late 71 to 76 455 had the date code inside the block near the lifter galleys. Only way to see is if intake is off.
