cloth hold down

Weird question for you guys..

What is a good glue to use to reglue the cloth that connects the top to the header bar over the front seats? I've thought about using seam mender (avail at most craft stores) but looking for suggestions on using that or diffrent glue


mine has come both unglued and torn (the lil 1" high piece and i'm looking to fix it pretty soon so I don't stretch out the top anymore than I have to.

I'm also looking for ideas to re fasten it to the bar.

the top is in decent shape (cept for the small tear) and I'm too broke right now to pay for a new top.

That's a tough one...I used to just roll down the driver's window a few inches so the top didn't 'balloon' out when mine was like that. then I saved every penny I could find and put in a new top. I'm not so ure a glue will hold that for long. Sorry Nate:(

yea... its funny i do the window trick now... i even have it to a science. i can have it baloon 1/4" off that rail so its not flopping and pushing against it.

anyways.. there is evidence of it orginally glued there. and it held well, it appears. mostly the cloth tore. I'll try some of this seam mender stuff and find out what happens. I just need 72 hrs of non driving time for the glue to set..... like that ever happens.

When I first got my car, that little cloth strip was not around the bar. I'm pretty sure it was not the original top.

When I had the top replaced, the shop that didn't put the bar through the cloth on the new one. They told me it would just pull apart.

Of course, I have no idea if this is true. However, that makes 2 shops that did not use the cloth loop.

I used black trim adhesive. I smeared it along the cloth strip, then along the top where the cloth had come loose. I waited till it dried then smeared a thin coat on the top and carefully put them together. Dan
