Has anyone ever heard of a Vacuum tank? If so what is its purpose and where would it be located on a 55 Buick Super??? The reason I asked is because I bought a 4 pc engine line from inline tube.com, I recieved only three pieces and they do not look like the 4 vacuum lines that I currently use for vacuum... mind you they may not be original to the car any how. Thanks:beers2:

Vacuum tanks were used to retain a vacuum after the engine was shut-off.
My '71 has AC & has a round plastic tank on the firewall.
Vacuum source is from the carb., supply is to the heater/AC controls.
Other brands/models may have used it for trunk opener, door locks etc..

Your '55 shouldn't have a vacuum tank. The Super should have a 2 stage fuel pump or should I say independant sections with 2 diaphrams. One is used to pump the fuel itself and the other to assist with increasing / stabilising vacuum for the windscreen wipers. One steel line goes from the inlet manifold to pump and another from pump to rubber vacuum lines on the firewall.

If your Super has power brakes there is a vacuum tank for the power brakes located inside the drivers side frame rale towards the back.
