ok, so the fuel issue in the 55 Super has auto corrected, it will start and run like a champ...However, I have been checking all the sytems I can, I noticed the charge indicator seems to be working ok it was charging at freeway speeds, all was well, the next day I noticed the charge indicator was slightly behind the neutral position (O) kept driving and the next thing know I need a jump, make it home Indicator still no joy... Swap voltage regulator and it takes off to the far right charge indicator, run some errands its at full charge for 20-30 min and starts leveling off, assume batt is charged back to normal, on the way back to the house turn on some electrical accesories and it drops middle left and stays... will not go back to neutral Or indicate a charge.... may be bad voltage Reg.??? BTW I did polarize the Voltage Reg used batt and gen according to Buick Book.

I was told by an old electrical rebuilder around here (he's been in business since 1955) that polarizing a regulator by doing the book method prior to starting the car was a sure-fire way to wreck it. He was very emphatic about that, and it's been his experience that most regulators don't stand up to that kind of shock. He suggested that upon installing a regulator in a car, starting it, and seeing that the needle deflects to the negative side, all one has to do is shut the car off, wait a minute, and then restart it, and voila, the needle goes the right way. I did this when I installed my regulator in my 46 Super, had exactly the above happen, and shut off the car, restarted it,the needle swung the correct way and it hasn't missed a beat since. It will polarize itself once it sees current again. So chances are you've cooked the regulator.
