Not sure if this is the correct forum, but here goes: I have a 72 Skylark. I stick the trunk key in the lock today and the lock comes out with the key in it. It seems like it just fell apart. Luckily, my wallet isn't in the trunk, but I have no idea how to proceed. The trunk is still "locked" or closed, but I need to correct this problem. What do I do? :Do No:

Thanks,
Gehmbo

If the whole lock mechanism came out, take a large flat screwdriver and use it to turn the latch inside the hole.

Take a flashlight and look into the hole, you will see the slot.

It actually is that simple. Like Adam said, take a long flat blade screwdriver and turn it clockwise.

There should be a large clip that holds the lock in place.

I have no lock in the back of my 64 right now. I use a screw driver on it. I'm going to order a new lock set, but in the past I've had cars that were a beater with a heater that I had to do that to and never did fix.
If you look in there with a flash light it should be very easy to see how it works.

Walkin around with that stubby flat blade in your front pocket may get you some unwanted attention though!!:pp :pp

Yep, Jimmy, it is that easy:laugh:

I've had the 58 for a little over a year now. It is slowly sucking my will to live...
