G'day all
We're now having issues with our brake lights on our '55 Super.
First up we put new globes in (among other things) then find the fuse keeps blowing. Put the old globes back in and all ok. Anyone know the exact specs on the correct globes? The ones its running has nothing legible written on them.
Second - and more importantly - the brake lights only come on when the pedal is pushed very firmly (closer to the floor). Obviously not the best set up. Is there any adjustment in the hydraulic switch etc?
Thanks again <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "globes", but I'll assume it's what we North Americans call "bulbs". Your car would use a double filament 1157 bulb for the brake-lights. Check and see if the current bulbs have two "tits" on the very back. These would be the correct ones. If the replacements only have one, then that is what is blowing your fuses out.

The hydraulic switch has no adjustment to it. Yours is probably wearing out. These switches are still available at most North American parts stores, however I'm not sure if there was any Australian car that used a similar set-up. Try your local Holden dealer, if there was anything that used a North American sourced brake cylinder it would probably be listed with them. The same switch was used on Chevy pick-ups until the seventies, which is why they're still available here.

you probably need a new switch. old brake fluid crud could be blocking the passage. what number globes are you installing?

cheers all
Did have to laugh at the globes vs bulbs. We do use both terminologies, though 'bulbs' tend to be what we put in the ground and lovely flowers come from :)
