1955 Special power brakes

Has anyone out there ever rebuilt a power brake cylinder. Seems mine causes the engine to run rough, (remove vaccum hose to it and plug the engine then smooths out.) also power brakes are not so much power anymore like there is a vaccum leak when applied and they seem to loose the power part. Is this a very difficult task? Can a shade tree mechanic accomplise it or does it take a genius.

sounds like you have a vaccum leak. check all the hoses first. may be dry rotted. if the p/b is working good, it should put you through the w/shield.
