View Full Version : 63 Wildcat Rear View Mirror (interior)

When I was in the process of buying my Wildcat I noticed the rear view mirror was black and I--expecting it to be aluminum/stainless/chrome-- figured it had been replaced. I asked the seller, "what happened to the original?" and he said it WAS the original. I told this story to Sergeant Major and his opinion was that the seller was full of crap.

I replaced the mirror with a used one (from a '63 Riviera) I bought cheaply on eBay. But now I'm wondering, what IS this black mirror? Does it belong to any Buick of any year? Take a look:

I agree with Sarge, the seller was full of crap. I don't know what it came from, but I HIGHLY doubt it's the original.

Can you take a pic of the opposite side?

Thanks for chiming in. Here's a pic of the mirror side below. On top it says "Guide Glare-Proof" and on the bottom "Made In USA". The body is painted metal but the rim is flexible rubber.

It looks to me like a 69 and above Electra.

I think a federal mandate came in maybe around the 72 model year and they went to a black case at that time.

In the time since I created this thread I've found plenty of evidence that the rear view mirror should be silver for '63 cars. Then I found this:

It appears to have the same rear view mirror mine had. Doesn't appear that much has been altered on this car, so it makes me wonder...

Interesting to say the least, both the car (factory 4spd, mmmmm :Brow: ) and the mirror.

It wouldn't hurt to shoot the seller a message and ask.
