fader removal

How do you remove the knob with the fader (70 GS radio)? I pulled on it, but it won't budge. Should I pull harder? Any tricks? man I don't want to break it!!!!

couple of things come to mind - some of the old radio knobs had set screws to keep them affixed to the shaft . did someone happen to use superglue or epoxy to glue a loose knob in place ?
if it is glued , then u may have to use a dremel tool to cut the knob off .
