Need tutorial, Fix Wheel Center Cap Retainers

I have center caps, the short trishield ones like on 70's Regals and LeSabres, that need the retainer put back on. I see some on here have put screws in the back. I wondered if someone would share the information, what size drill bit, do I tap threads, use some self tapping screw, use a sheet metal screw? What has worked best for you?

i rebuilt/reattached the retainers on the 73 & up black & 71-72 silver centre caps. firstly, i used a drill press & a drill bit large enough to remove the solder on the clip retainer. mine were soldered/leaded where they were attached to the posts.
then i used a very small bit in the drill press to drill into the post and very small sheet metal screws to reattach the clip. i will have to check the bit & screw size and let u know. i actually done a number of these centre caps.
