1962 Buick Lesabre wont stay in run

Help, my 1962 buick lesabre wont run when the ign switch is in the run position. If i hold the key swith midway between the start and run position, the car will run...when i let go and the key springs to run by itself the car dies....what should i diagnois? Help--new at this restoration game...

Sounds like the ignition switch is the problem. Maybe it needs to be cleaned and or adjusted? That's my best guess. Worst comes to worse you could always retro fit a later style or aftermarket switch. Good luck!

any suggestions? what type of switch is compatible....where is it sold? frazzled and ready to hotwire this puppy.....not safe tho?

I'd start by removing the old switch, and trying to determine what's actually wrong with it. Then go from there.

Do you have a shop manual at all?
