So here is my official thread:beer

This project is a 71 skylark that grandpa bought new and gave to me when I was 20 (I am now 40:shock: ). I took the 350 out as soon as g-pa went home that day.........lol....and droped in a 430 with window rattler cam. repainted it twice - but never really did the job that I am doing this go-around.

I am doing every thing myself - except the motor - thats JW's job....should have the motor in around March. see signature

Here are some pics of whats gone on in the last 2 years. I have lots of other pics on my other camera and will get them up also.

Not too exciting...but its a slooooooow process....

This sight gets me pumped every DAY!!!...........I cannot wait to get this thing finished............about 2 years out.........

Randy,

I got that tank new from ebay for $60. It was a blem with some bad paint in spots. Sanded it all down and repainted it.

I think its a non USA part - but could not pass on the deal. Robbmc's
8-an pickup fit like a glove - and the tank seems to fit fine.

Hi Todd,

I thought long and hard about lifting the body:idea2:

I would love too - but decided (room was a big factor) to do a frame on.

I just love the look of those rolling, painted, completed frames some of these guys have sitting in there garage...............too pretty to put a body on.......lol

We ain't getting any younger either:bla:

Good luck

Great Job, Im currently cutting out my trunk floor pan also. Those tac welds are hell to drill, I bought the correct drill bit but it still alot of work. Whos floor pan kit are you going to use? Also are you gong over lap the front and back pan seam or but up the new to the old?

Hi Rich,

My trunk is 90% done, I used the one piece from http://www.npdlink.com and it fit very good. It does not extend to the trunk floor drops on either side and I had some rust there. I just need to fab up some small pieces to finish the job. but the main piece is welded in place. It was the hardest job yet...good luck with yours

Drill - Grind - Hammer - Pull -Kick the dog - then do it again and again...................

I am not good enough to but weld .............LOL.....I slid the new one on top of the old (about a 1 inch lip). A little seam sealer and some platter paint and it will be hard to notice.

Here is a great link

Thanks for the info. I seen that on the trunk Pan replacment also.
As for the but weld, Let me rephrase that...Will you be overlaping the panels and welding or butting the edges against each other and welding, LOL .
Im going to overlap mine on the front at the curve on the top. Can you post a pic of the pan when the installation is complete ?
Thanks, Rich...

YA! Maybe once my rolling chassis is done, I'll just put it in a display case and look at it! :Brow: I guess I could put the body back on??? :Brow:

A few more updates - test fit the panels the other day. I will remove them to paint the jams.

I am hoping to get motor in, jams painted, and reassembled this summer.

Because of funds - the lower quarters will be fixed next spring (patch inners and outers also on one side) - a little arse backwards I know but sometimes you have to improvise:laugh:

I forgot to install the lower quarter to cowl bolts for this test fit:Dou: So in the pictures the lines are below the door. When pushed up into proper place they fit very good.

Almost done striping it down in this pic

Nice work!

I like the wheels and tires on your car! What brand and size are they?

rack-attack
06-19-2010, 12:08 PM
Hey Sean,

The rims are Centerlines Fuel. They have just the look I was going for.
Fronts are 15 x 7 - 3.5" bs
Rears are 15 x 8.5 with 5" bs

Rear tires are Mickey Thompson Sportsman "I" series N50-15, the tread is over 12" with these. Fronts are BF - goodrich (can't remember what)

I wanted 10" rims and run some drag radials - but I could not find a rim a really liked (that was affordable) in that size.

Lookin good Chuck! That is going to be one sharp ride when all is done! Any ideas on paint color yet?

rack-attack
10-10-2010, 07:32 PM
Thanks Matt:TU:

The paint will be Silver with black GSX stripes. Not really going clone (no GSX badges) Just like the look.........rear spoiler, front spoiler.............I like buying stuff...

The jambs are painted and in page 1 of this thread you can see the color on the underside of the trunk. Also the radiator top plate is painted with the body color.

Plans are to Fire her up this Thursday:pray:  ................depends when my Drive shaft shows up

I understand on the non GSX clone decision. That's the route I'm going with my Lark- I like the stripes and spoilers, just not gonna do all the badging.

And make sure you get video of the first start up! I think I can speak for everyone by saying we all want to see/hear it!

Any buck shot with a bow is a good one. That would be a good buck shot with a rifle.

That dose not look like New York in the background. Where did you get that buck.
