My buddy Steve has been recently diagnosed with a cancer tumor in his spinal cord between his shoulders. The first Dr he saw said there was nothing they can do, but the second Dr he saw said the only hope he has is to try and remove the tumor. The surgery they are doing today is very intrusive and could very well put him in a wheel chair or maybe even lose of life. If you could say a prayer for Steve and his family I would sure appreciate it:pray: thank you in advance....Chris

Thanks guys, I just got off the phone with his son and things went well. They removed the tumor with minimal nerve damage but they had to fuse 3 vertebrae together. After a 8 hr operation he could move his legs tonight, its day by day from here. There hoping he will be able to come home in 2 to 4 weeks. Chris

My Dad had a cancerous tumor removed from his spine in 1965. He's still kickin! I pray for the same success for your friend!

GREAT news!

My wife just had one removed in September in her lower back. Recovery in her case is slow as she still has a lot of surface pain (touching near the incision) and it's slowing physical therapy.

She hasn't returned to work yet, and we're getting screwed by the short and long term disability insurances as in denied.

It may look kinda like the picture below. (the right on the picture would be the small of her back) The white is the spinal cord. The grey mass in the lower back is/was my wife's tumor. Approx 1.25" long and .5" in dia. Took up the entire spinal canal. It grew around on of the nerves that connect to the back and side of the legs that feel pain. She had leg pain at night when sleeping. The tumor was fully filling the cavity and growing. The surgery was booked for 5 hrs. It took 8hrs. luckily she didn't need to fuse any of the vertebrae. However they remove part of the bone and don't put it back.

Click here to see what it looks like from the inside (http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs259.snc1/10631_156588473267_507983267_3621353_7624206_n.jpg ). (not for the faint of heart) The veiny looking hotdog is the tumor. The black strings are actually holding back the sheath on the spinal cord and all the whiteish fibers are the nerves.

I went through a similar situation 5 years ago. I have a few minor problems, mainly when I try to bend forward but other than that I am doing OK luckily.
