A friend of mine has a rural repair garage that contains a lot of very old parts. Lots of old 6 volt bulbs never used etc. Looking at some old mufflers up on a shelf I saw a couple of old boxes from Buick Motor Division that appear to be from the late 40's or very early 50's with never installed factory mufflers for what I would think would be straight 8 era Buicks. The Buick logos on the boxes are very old, contain part numbers in red print and the mufflers have never been out of the box!!!!
I can get them real cheap! He just wants to get rid of the stuff. I would think the market for that stuff would be huge especially given that they are Buick parts in the original box. My Buicks are 65 and 79 so the stuff is way before my time. Thoughts?

I used to vend alot of NOS Buick parts and I was always sure to take original mufflers when cleaning out an old dealer. Nice think about them is tthat they always fit, have the right sound etc.. Many Buick collectors didn't want to spend the $$$ for them 15-20 years ago but I'd bet they could fetch some good money these days ??? Dont let the colored ink on the boxes fool you, because they could be mufflers for cars up into the 50's. Let me know if your friend has any chrome or accessories

I'd be interested in a 248 cu in engine muffler.

If you shoot me a Buick part number for the 248 muffler, I will look. Gonna go over there this week.

Gee - I'd be interested in a mail-order muffler at a reasonable price. Suppose I ought to ask the guys who pulled my engine if there's single or dual exhaust down there. Like - there's single exhaust pipe at the rear bumper - does that mean my 1st year (53) Nailhead 322 V8 would probably have a cross-over pipe before the muffler ? If and when you get to a "price" - let me know ? I'm in zip 14150.

Brought a Buick muffler home tonight. Still in the Buick box. There may be more, not sure though. Part # I can see is 1388708 marked on the end of the box. There is a Buick Motor Division label with the original mailing address. Had a PM from a guy in Macungie, Pa who said he had an old parts # list but I must have deleted his PM by mistake. Need to figure out what the application is?

Mike,
Your muffler is passenger side (RH) for all 57 Buicks with dual exhaust and early 58's with dual exhaust. Early 58's had 2" tailpipes, later type 1-3/4".

Thanks for the help. See you at Macungie later this year. Will either bring the 65 LeSabre conv or my black 79 Regal turbo coupe. Either way I won't be too hard for you to spot.
