Has anyone on here ever had their flywheel explode? What do yall think of scattereshields for street cars. or Steel bellhousings.

I would use one on a street car.I bug my buddy to install one on one of his 4speed BBB cars it's a mild to moderate build, the other is close to stock. Then again I break lots of parts.

Depends what you'll be doing with it. If your going to start seriously drag racing a 4 speed, then yeah, a scattershield would be a good investment if you like your legs and toes. A clutch explosion has the force of a grenade. Im pretty sure that the NHRA requires one as part of a tech inspection.

But I think for your purposes, a factory aluminum bellhousing would suffice. Ive had quite a few 4 speed cars and street raced them all. Never had one explode yet. I still have all my fingers and toes.

For me it would depend on a few things. The most important thing is if it is original cast flywheel or a T/A forged piece or equivelent. And how you drive the car. If your side stepping the clutch, power shifting etc you might want to step up to a scatter shield. If your a tame driver and not too hard on your car then I might pass on the scatter shield.

A guy I used to hang around with had a 68 mustang with a decent 302 and a 4 speed and he had a clutch explode and it destroyed the whole clutch assembly of course and severed his steering column and header pipes and took a serious chunk out of the asphalt. Fortunately it went downwards when it exploded. It was an eye opener though. Marcel.
