I've got a couple of questions about the fan.
#1. How do I take the fan off?
#2. What is the correct order of doing things between the fan and cowl? Take the cowl off first, or the fan?
#3. Can I run the engine with the fan off so's I can work on the distributor without fear of chopping my hands off? For a few minutes, in park, while setting timing, etc?
Thanks!

I usually take the fan off first, then the shroud. I did it the other way around once, and you have to drag the shroud against the rad, NOT a good idea:spank: Yes, you can run the engine without the fan, for a minute or so, BUT, your going to have to attach the fan pulley back onto the water pump so you can install the belt so the water pump turns. Instead of doing all that just to adjust your timing, just move the distributor in small increments while the engine is off, start it, check your timing, and repeat if you have too. Thats what I do, I dont like grabbing the distributor while the engine is running either, not of fear of the fan, but getting shocked, I've been jolted by HEI, it knocked me on my a$$

:gp: What he said. It may be a tedious process, but it's a no lose situation- You'll have all your fingers, and your motor won't overheat!

What do you do to get the fan blades off?

The fan/clutch assy. comes off together from the water pump, THEN the fan is removed from the clutch. Mark
