I have a 1967 Buick Special 2dr hardtop. The original 340 was swapped for a 70 455 engine and 200-4R with 3.90 gears installed. I want to run staggered wheels, 20X8.5 front and 20X10 rear. The original 8.2 BOP axle is being used. The wheels are American Eagle Boss 338 20X10 +20 Offset 6.225” backspace(rear) and 20X8.5 +14 Offset 5.239” backspace(front). Tires will be Front 255/35/20 and Rear 285/30/20. Will this tire and wheel setup work on my 67 Buick Special?
Thanks.

67s have the smallest wheelwells...I suspect that's not going to work. Check George's Black Widow which has about the biggest tire set up for a 67 without tubbing: 18X8/245/40 front and 18X10/295/35 rear.

I have saw pictures of George's GS and a 295mm is a wider tire than I am going to use. I have measured and I have about 11.5" of space from the inner fender to the inside edge of the outer fender. If I can find the correct backspace to maintain correct suspension travel, I think I will be fine. Thoughts?

Yeah, its going to take careful measuring. You might be able to mock up the wheel/tire combo and try it out. The Tire MountMate is one tool (http://www.wheelworksinc.com/mountmate.html)
You are correct in that the correct back spacing is critical. May be someone else can chime in with their experience.

Here are some measurements that are from my car, with wheel and tire measurements for the set up i used.My 67 is on Hotchkis 1" dropped susp.and i have had no problems with rubbing except my fronts touch the sway bar when the front wheels are turned hard to the L or R.I used a 1/4" spacer on the rear DS to bring the wheel out to clear the tire from the frame.I obtained the meas's by bolting a 16"piece of 3/4' angle bar to the face of the wheel hubs under a lug nut F & B.I put a line on the bar at the Max dia. of my tires, and measured at that point to the frame & inner lip of your fender. This will give you the Max room you will have to fit your tire/wheel combo. You will need to know the inflated section width of the tires and the OA width of the wheels. From here you can figure out the Back Offset from the face of the hub to the lip of the wheel toward the frame and the Front Offset from the face of the hub to the lip of the wheel toward the inner lip of the fender. The Back and Front offsets will equal the OA width of your wheel.Be sure to include the tire OA inflated section width when checking for room. Measure all 4 corners as my rears were not the same, a diagram will make this more clear. Here is my measurements.REARS DS, Hub to Frame-7 1/4",Hub to Fender-4 1/2" PS,Hub to Frame-7 1/2",Hub to Fender 4 3/8" FRONTS Hub to A arm 7" Hub to Fender-4 7/8" both sides. WHEELS REAR 17" x 9 1/2",OA width 10 1/2", Back offset 6 1/2" Front offset 4" FRONT 17" x 8",OA width 9", Back offset 5" Front offset 4". TIRES REAR, 275/40-17 section width 10.83" Dia. 25.66" FRONT, 245/45-17 section width 9.65" Dia. 25.68". Hope this helps.
