This is for sale locally and I'm hoping someone can identify the model of transmission and year of manufacture.
There are some casting numbers on the head ---- 1196914
on the rear engine block near distributor --- B1664705 10
Engine number is / could be 5Y122292 It was very hard to figure out in the low light and with years of dust accumulation and minor corrosion.

Does any one have any ideas please.

Ken.

After looking at the head and the partial VIN and the pic it is a Buick 401 from a 65 model.

Can you tell if it's the Switch Pitch 400 trans, or did all 1965 401s come with it ? :Do No:

All 65's would have come with a ST400 with the variable pitch torque converter vanes (switch pitch.) You can confirm this. If the electrical terminal is still on the driver's side of the transmission, then there will be two spades on the temninal if it is a switch pitch. The model year will be stamped on the tag on the passenger side of the transmission. Look for two stamped letters on the passenger side surface where you found the serial number a LT will be a 65 401 w/ 10.25 compression. LW will be a 425. There might be another L_ letter combination if it's the low compression export engine.
