View Full Version : Wheel size backspacing for 70 skylark
I have read several post about backspacing. Is this an issue for the front?
WHAT SIZE WHEEL / BACKSPACING SHOULD I BE LOOKING FOR on the rear? 15X8 5-1/2 BACKSPACE OR 15X8 4-1/2 BACKSPACE?
I have my eye on a pair of 15x7 Centerlines.
They are 5 lug with 4.75" bolt pattern and 3.5" backspacing would this be ok for the front?

I believe that the 70-72's are dimensionally the same in the wheelwells. I have 15x8's with 4.5" backspace in the rear of my 72 convertible with 275/60/15's and I have 15x7's up front with 3.5" BS but could only run 235/60/15's. If I had a little more backspace inthe front I could run a little larger tire. Overall, I am happy with the way they look on the car.

The following tire size are dimensionallly correct for a G78 tire that originally came on these cars:
215/75R15
225/70R15
These are 27" tall. Factory wheels have 4-1/2" backspacing. That extra inch is 25.4 mm, so it's a lot when getting a good sized tire under there.

Since we are talking tire size, I need all of your help. I have a 67 skylark, with 14" rallys, but they just don't look right, especially in the rear.I'm thinking of moving up to 15" rims, but here is my question- I want some heighth/width in the back, and the front to be proportionate with the rear tire size. What size ratio do you think will look good?
