How many O-rings are supposed to be here?

I am re-assembling the a/c box on my 1970 Skylark Custom and was in the process of changing the o-rings that go between the evaporator core and the expansion valve when I discovered a stack of 3 o-rings inside the fitting coming out of the evaporator core. Is this correct? If not, can anyone tell me how many are supposed to be here? I have pictures of the location as well as what I extracted. Thank you...Gary

There should only be one O-ring on each fitting. It's possible that previous onwers installed new ones without realizing the old ones were still in there. It's also possible that someone added a couple extra hoping it would fix a leak, which won't work for long once the system has pressure in it.

Bill, thank you for the information. I thought it was 'one to a customer', but you never know. I feel very fortunate to have this Buick community to reach out to for help during my first project. Based upon the other 'band-aids' I have found, your idea about the previous owner adding extra's in an attempt to stop a leak is probably correct. Thanks again for the help. Gary

Use the newer green or blue ones. They are better thanthe old black rubber.

Dave, thank you for the reply. I bought an entire set of green ones, but just wasn't sure how many to install. I also bought the Nylog assembly lube to use as well. Gary
