This is our 65 Skylark 2dr post that we have been working on for the last 3 years as a High school extra curricular project to get kids interested in the trades.
It was pretty much a basket case when we got it, Allot of rust issues up here in Atlantic Canada. But hey it wouldn't have taught them much if it were mint, right?
The students do as much work as possible with mine and a couple other instructors help. Everything from making panels, welding, body work, differential overhaul (customized a 9inch Ford), custom control arms, trans overhaul, complete brakes, even rebuilt a couple wheels cyls because we had the tooling. This year we are trying to finish up the body for paint and working on an engine rebuild which I will try to document for anyone interested.
I may have some questions or parts availability issues for folks if they are able to help. Any help or interest would be great.
Thanks,
Darren

Awesome project Darren. What motor is in there? Is that a 400, 430, 455?

Whatever you do, PLEASE don't put a Chevy motor in it.

Nice progress! Looks like I'll have to bring my car up there so the team can do my trunk floor too!

Hi Darren,
Nice project. My children always played against the Black Kats.
I'm only an hour away if I can help you with misc. parts. Most of mine are 70-72 misc. pieces.
Pictures at Miramichi?

In the pictures we are running a 1971 Buick 350. Last year we spun a rod bearing 2 days before the races in Miramichi. We had to slide in a chevy small block so we could run but it is only there temporarily while we build up the Buick 350.
We have most of the parts coming and machine work started.
I'll keep a progress report going with pics on the engine build up.
We are trying to finalize the body work for paint right now too.
Thanks for the interest, we take a lot of pride in what we have accomplished so far.
Small world eh Steve, We compete at the High School challenge every year in May at the Miramichi Dragway Park "Home of the Draggin", the students actually get to drive it as well. Big hit with them, allot of fun for us Teachers too.
If your in the neighborhood it's a fun weekend to go to the track , the kids get right into it.
I'll post the times and dates as soon as we know. The times change depending on the spring thaw.
