View Full Version : Oil capacity, windage tray and girdle
With a stock pan on an engine with a girdle, how much more oil can be added? I'm thinking 3 quarts. The pan has a "baffle" welded to the rear near the top of the sump.
What is a good windage tray for this? I used large expanded metal when I built it, but I don't think this works well (the holes are rather large).
Any ideas / pictures?

We got something new to try,MOROSO "windage tray screen",part #22912.
Supposed to be the hot ticket,it's a uni-directional screen that you cut and mount to the pan,If John Zerucha happens along he can tell somemore about this,he turned me onto it.
Oh,I believe it's about 40/50 bucks.
I was starting to consider going to WalMart and buying a cookie sheet! :Dou:

Has anybody done any testing with windage tray configs? My last engine went together without one too.

Hi Guys,
With my last 464ci Stage3 girdle I drilled and tapped for 10-24 button head screws in each main and used a Stef's Uni-Directional screen with washers also to prevent "pull-thru". I drilled and fitted each hole on one side then bent it over to see how much to trim of the other side. When I was done it arced nicely over the rotating assembly and ran the entire length front to back. I do not know how much this was worth horsepower wise but I doubt it hurt anything!:TU:
I do not have a scanner at this time so I can not post photos I have of the finished project.:(
From now on though, I plan to do this proceedure to ALL my 455's!
As a side note....this was with a TA deep-sump pan.
Hope this is useful.......
