I need a passenger taillight for a 78 Skylark.
Is it 78 only or are 75-78 the same?

they will all fit, but 75-76 are the same design then 77-79. only the reverse light area changed (they are smaller on the 77-79)

So which ones look the best? I don't care if they don't match the year of
the car.
I really like the looks of your car, it is why I searched and bought the
one I have.

Thanks Chris, i can think of no greater compliment. personally i like the 75-76 yail lights the best, but i may be a little biased.

I honestly don't know the differences, but these are some '77-'78 ones. The one on the right has been replaced as you can tell there is a small difference in the paint on it.

Here is a shot of what i believe are the 77-79 lenses (not my car). i think that silverbuick has a shot of the 75-76. i may be wrong on the years but what i DO know is that there is 2 different types of lenses and now you can see that difference. (look at the reverse lens)

I'm fairly certain the left one on mine is OE ('77), there is yellow writing on the right one that says " '78 Skylark" from being replaced. I'm not sure on the one in your picture, maybe a '79 only deal.
**Just to take it to the next level, I pulled out the 1977 Buick Dealership brochure, and the pictures have the same tail lights as my car.

From what I see the difference is small reverse lamp vs large reverse lamp. The small reverse 75-76 and large reverse 77-79. Am I right?
I would do a pair of the older ones if i have to.
I kinda like the newer ones though, mine have a nice silver stripes around
them and large reverse lenses.

Please let me know what you got. I actually need some body panel parts too.Mine was a Landau and it is rusted at the quarter glass. I also need rear inside quarter glass trim. I would really like to find a doner body to cut up.

not sure craig, but if what wimpy said is correct it is the smaller lenses, so its either a 75 or 76. i would grab those lenses, they look to be in good shape, and as you can see by this thread there are people looking for those.

I believe you are correct Wimpy... I thought it was the other way around since my 79 has the small reverse lamps, however upon further inspection I noticed the guide number is 75, so someone must have replaced them at one time....hmmmm..... you learn something everyday!
