Copied below is an article from the Internet about a new law regarding street racing in San Diego County (which is larger than the state of Connecticut).
Crack Down Targets Drag Racing Spectators
06-11-2003 11:31:AM
(San Diego, CA) -- County Supervisors are targeting spectators at illegal street races in an effort to help reduce fatal accidents in unincorporated areas of the county. Under an ordinance tentatively approved with a unanimous vote by the board yesterday, drag race spectators would face up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. The ordinance goes into effect after a second reading next week. Legalracing.com reports 16 deaths and 31 serious injuries directly related to illegal street racing last year in San Diego.

I am a serious gear head but some of the videos I have seen on racing down in Cal would have me more than a little nervous!!!!!!!!! I see people lined up and down the road these cars are running on, MORONS, IDIOTS etc… Stand behind the line and watch from there! No wonder people are getting hurt and killed.
If the two brain cells these people are running cant figure out that a car coming at them sideways is a bad idea?, I say great we don’t need them in the gene pool diluting it.
And yes we did plenty of street racing, but people had the common sense to stay at the line or a parking lot on the side not Two feet from Racing cars.
Thnx I feel better, Bud.

We have a saying here at work- IYDS.
"If you're dumb, suffer".
(as applied in this case, if you are stupid enough to stand 6" away from a car doing 125 MPH, you deserve to be run over if something goes wrong)
Sometimes I wish the government would stop interfering with Darwinism!

The only reason people here street race (I don't... only have fun gettin' on it hard to the speed limit) is because the closest race track is almost 2 hours away. Even a 1/8 mile track would be good. Then it'd just be the pansys that wouldn't run there. "I have a fast car", "What does it run?", "I don't know, the track is for wimps", "Right, which is why your 16 second car hasn't seen the track yet, right?"

Sounds like a business opportunity to me! Get some of your buddies together, find and investor and open an eighth mile track. You'll make a fortune.

16 seconds. hell those ricers would be happy with 16 seconds.
Last year at the track, I saw to ricers race each other.
one ran a 22, and the other ran a 19!
I venture to say that most kids can't afford the faster cars so they start at 18's and after tons of money end up at 16's.

Heard a good quote about ricers...
"You race honda's with your Buick?? Do you kick puppies too?"

I remember reading in the paper down here that a kid was street racing and blew a stop sign or something to that effect and broadsided a car killing the driver..........who turned out to be his own mother!

Yep that was high profile case that got alot of media attention Up here(jax fl.) in 1990 or 91 there was an incedent at an industrial park thats at an old airport . There were even some crude safety measures in place such as keeping the spectators back from the actual runway/dragstip about 50' to 75' and it was being videotaped by several people. The race was between an older camaro and a mid eighties thunderbird called halfbreed. Well about half track the camaro broke the right axle while shifting and that turned the car hard right and into a row of parked cars and spectators killing a three year old girl. Her body could be seen flying about 150' in the air on two of the video's. Needless to say everyone involved including the little girls parents who were also among the injured were prosecuted and I believe both drivers and the little girls father seved time in jail over it.

It seems to me that the only reason people get hurt in street races is because of the rice burners. It seems to me that most of the people around here that drive real cars show some respect and only race whn no one else is on the road. but I've had rice racers damn near run me off the road trying to race some other peice of junk during rush hour traffic.

I'd love to revive an old drag strip as a business proposition.
Suggestions more than welcome from those of you that know of recently shut down strips that don't require major rehab. Send me contact info.
Not kidding. These things take a year or more to work out. Don't expect a fast result.

im not all for illegal street racing but i live in northern california and the closest speedway is sears point *no, its not infinean to me! DIE MOPAR!* anyways, they hold open race night there where anyone can pay a small fee to race but it is always flooded with ricers. there is almost no chance of a good run in a classic. and about the foolish street racers down south, I guess morons are rewarded theses days because any real car guy/gal knows that anything can break and become shrapnel...its downright moronic to stand next 2 feet away from racing cars half way down the 1/4.

Have you ever noticed that the people that drive rice rockets are most asses? I mean any time they see a muscle they asume they will beat it.... and if not that they at least cuz you off!
Well, my friend and i were getting on the freeway when a brand new lexus that was tricked out (RICE ROCKET style not very impressive) flew past us on the sholder. So my friend kicked it into 5 gear over drive and smoked the guy that had just flown past us.
So we had to catch up and then we beat him!!!!
GOD I LOVE ALL AMERICAN MUSCLE!!!!
We got off at the same off ramp as him and pulled up next to him and well you could see it in his eyes ... he had just spent over $60,000 in his car just to be beat by a car we only put 5000 or 6000 into. HE knew he got :spank:

I call or email the newspapers and TV stations when they call "street racing" of any kind "drag racing". It really burns me up!!!
2 imports hit it at 60 mph on the beltway and they call it DRAG racing.
I tell them that drag racing is a sanctioned organized sport.
If someone beats someone up with a baseball bat are they going to call it playing baseball!!!!????
Or punched someone they are boxing!!????
Hell no!!!
But the twits working there just don't get it.
Call it "illegal street racing" not drag racing!!:blast:
