View Full Version : Two things: Fuel Pump block off plates and Air/Fuel Monitoring
I've been running into some issues with my Q-Jet loading up on me and all I can think of is that I went from using a Holley Blue pump by itself to using the Holley Blue pump @ the tank *with* the mechanical pump on the block when I did the engine swap into the new car.
I'm considering pulling the mechanical pump altogether. Is there a block-off plate I can get that will work to cover the hole?
Once this is done, I've found myself really interested in getting an A/F gauge or monitor to tune my car and help in monitoring nitrous usage since I'm finding myself tempted to buy a kit.
Has anyone used an A/F gauge or monitor to tune their car? Which one do you have, and has it been valuable to you as a tool? I'd like to get some input because it's an investment that even though pricy, could end up saving me money by saving me gas and maximizing my power.
Besides, 93 Octane isn't as cheap as it was in the late 80's :)
Any input is appreciated.

I can answer this one...a block-off plate for a big block Chevy will work just fine.

And that one is the same for a small block Chevy. Finding one shouldn't be a problem.

Nope, the small block Chevy plate is different and won't fit the Buick.

That will either fit a big block or cover the fuel pump opening of the pushrod cover on a small block. Typically a small block plate does the job of both, and won't fit the Buick:

I understand, I'm just messing with ya  But by using the plate for just the pump there's no need to remove the pushrod cover because the pushrod has to remain to prevent loss of oil pressure. And this fuel pump block off will work on many GM cars and probably others.

Bottom line, if Phil orders a block off plate for a small block Chevy, he's pretty much guaranteed to get a part that won't fit. If he orders one for a BBC, no worries.
This confusion burned another board member just a year or two ago.

Phil, I think I have a chrome one on a 455 sitting in my garage...will check today... pay the shipping and its yours...
So if I already have a SBC pump delete plate, I should be able to line up the bolt holes, trace the outline of the gasket onto the SBC plate and use the cut-off wheel to make my own?
Otherwise, I may as well send cstanley-gs a few stamps and have him drop the cover he has in an envelope.

:TU: That's what I would do, but that's just me. I like to think outside the catalog
