First, thanks to everyone who had helped me by sharing their knowledge on this board... there's no where else like this board for Buick people.

I'm in the middle of redoing my 1970 Skylark. I recently had the front fenders, inner wheel wells & core support off, and it seemed like a good time to do a front disc conversion. I didn't use a kit, but piecemealed it with caliper brackets from Pirate Jack and the rest from Speedway Motors. Everything fit, but there was some rubbing when it was taken around the block.

I have 14" Buick rallye wheels on this, but I thought these came from a later 70s car, so I was hoping I'd avoided the problem owners of cars with original 14" wheels face when upgrading to disc brakes.

Normally, I'd just upgrade to 15" rallyes, but I just bought brand-new tires for the car last summer, and they have less than 50 miles on them. So I'm hoping someone here can help me out with this problem. Is there a pair of 14" rallyes that I can use for this (and thus I won't have to replace the rear wheels)? If so, does anyone have a pair for sale?

I can post in the Wanted forum, but before that, I'm hoping you guys can tell me if a solution for 14" wheels is a possibility first.

I don't know if the rallye wheel design changed over the years, so I took two pics of what I have now, in case there's a possible problem with matching them with my old rear ones.

thanks,
Matt

Auto supply stores used to sell spacers that you put between the hub and the wheel (various thicknesses). Last time I bought one was in the early '90s...

Summit Racing is a good source for spacers.

i can tell u this. the rims, if they have a "JJ" code in the drop centre of the rim, are meant for gm disk brake cars or drum braked cars built after 1968. to check it out either mount the rim on the hub or remove the tire to check for the code.

Something to take into consideration,

Even though they are not supposed to, some of the reproduction disc brake caliper mounting brackets hit the rims. Several guys have had to grind off an edge to make them work.

Post a picture with the wheel removed and also describe where it rubs. I put a disc brake conversion kit on my 64 with 14" Rally's and did not have a problem.

Sorry to break in here with a new question, but I'm a newbie and can't seem to figure out how to make a new post, and this question is like one for my '69 GS350. I have 15" rally rims, and bought some OEM disc brakes from my buddy with a 72 Chevelle, wondering if they'll fit. Also wondering what the stamp on backside means, a small "M4" with a 5 underneath, followed by "23 WP". I know some members were discussing tire codes recently, wondering where to find them...:Do No:
