"70 gs build sheet location

A co-worker of mine has purchased a 70 GS stage I from the original owners. Any idea, without knowing what plant it was built in, where it might be located? I need to get VIN from him to know what plant.

How much you wanna bet it was built in Flint? If it's a real Stage car, I can just about guarantee that it was.

Build sheets are all over the place, but look for one rolled up in the drivers side A pillar, above the radio, under carpet, under back seat, in the springs of the front seat, inside door panels, above the gas tank, etc.....

Don't be disappointed if you don't find one, sometimes they don't and sometimes it's the wrong one too.

Thanks for the reply. He has the original window sticker, so that's good. It was sold new in Lafayette, Indiana. I was thinking Flint just because of that. I know what you mean by Flint cars. I had the same problem A '70 Monte Carlo SS that was built in Flint. No build sheet. He hasn't got it home yet, But more info will be coming.

The Monte was built in a different plant than the Buicks. Chevrolet plant had lots of problems then, and was shortly converted to all TRUCKS!!!

A labor strike at Chevrolet's Flint, Michigan assembly plant (where most Monte Carlo production was scheduled) during the early months of the 1970 model year immediately following the car's introduction on September 18, 1969 limited overall model-year sales to 159,341; short of the projected 185,000. During those early months, Monte Carlos were in short supply, with full-scale production not happening until February 1970, leaving many would-be buyers disappointed after going to their Chevrolet dealers and finding no Monte Carlos in stock. However, once full production got underway, Monte Carlos sold briskly and mostly at full list price (usually being ordered with many extra-cost options), making it a very profitable model for Chevrolet and its dealership networks. SS 454s, however, did not sell so well in 1970, with only 3,823 of the 1970 Monte Carlos being the most sporty and powerful model in the range.

The build sheet for my GSX was 10 cars off, found on the gas tank. The body production sheet was in the A-pillar.

I didn't intend to highjack my own thread, but the Monte I had, had a build date of 09C. So it was built in the short time between production starting and the strike. It had the orignal LS5 on which the partial VIN was off by one digit (111095 vs. 111094). Then the partial VIN on the firewall was was off by ten (111095 vs. 111085). It must have been the day before the strike.:Do No:

That's always interesting info, a friend of mine worked there during that time, he has some very interesting stories. He probably worked on getting your car ready to ship!! Is it black?

No, it WAS white with a black vinyl top. The guy I sold it to parted it out. Does your friend have any idea why there are no Flint build sheets?

I found a Fisher build sheet under the sound deadner on the passenger front floor on my Flint built 71. It looked cooked from the car being in the oven after painting and to melt the sound ins. to the floor.The Fisher sheet is huge.
