View Full Version : Tube or Tubeless?
Hi,
just discovered that my newly purchased original Rallye Wheels seem to have tubes? I once had a 78`Caprice with aftermarket wheels and tubes, heavy cornering could tear the tube inside the tire apart. Do I have to think about it when I misuse the rear tire under heavy accelaration or when cornering?
Also I have a set of steel Oldsmobile wheels, same system with tubes? How about the AR Daisys I have, tubes also?
Please enlighten me, I`m confused

Unless beads rusty and won't hold air...shouldn't need tubes. Some poorly-made aftermarket wheels have tubes to compensate for pinholes...but they should have been returned instead...
Over the years, I've used various steel and alloy factory/aftermarket wheels...all tubeless...some had drag radials @20psi...no problems...well, maybe rain...
P.S. I tend to run mine @max inflation...except for drag radials
Do I get you right, the classic Rallye wheels where tubeless? The guy at the tire shop told me different, but then, we`re in Europe where old american cars are exotics. So, is the Buick Rallye wheel supposed to have a tube or doesn`t it need one?

my dad's 54 chev had tubeless tires from the factory.
the buick rallyes are tubeless. it should not cause a problem is u use a tube as long as the tube is proper for the tire - be it radial or non radial.

Am I right, in thinking that, tubeless tires lessens the chance of blowout? That, a tubeless tire generally, will let the air out slowly upon rupture? Rather than blow out?
Also, I have a dim recollection if tubes being required in some wire wheels? Or, is it just 'sleeves' that were required for wire wheels?

a blowout is a blowout whether a tubed ot tubeless. many wire wheels had to have tubes and the drop centre had to be wrapped to protect the tube.

My Zenith wire wheels had to have tubes. Discount Tire did it for me but I had to furnish a bunch of baby powder
So, I changed the tires from my Olds wheels to the original Rallye wheels....looks fantastic, and fits without any tube ....someone just put one tube in one wheels, why remains to be unknown....
Thanks for your help, "case cleared"
