Hey guys I have finally gotten my 1967 gs 400 home. I rollbacked it from surry county VA. It has the 3 speed tranny with console and console tach, it also has power windows and is an A/C car. Those are all the good, the thing that I'm unsure of is that it has a 430 under the hood. Now I know that GM was forbidden to put anything bigger than a 400 in the a bodies until 70, but the guy I got it from said that its all original and it has been in his family the entire time. I called Yearone and the guy said that a lot of things went out the back door of GM plants through the years. Has anyone else seen this before or do I have some super rare automobile?

Either someone stuck a 430 in there or its a 400 badged as a 430.

Take a flashlight and a mirror and look on the step just behind the intake manifold next to the firewall. Cast into the block will be 400 or 430 and some other numbers. Tell us how they read.

Thanks alot guys. This really got tricky, I read the casting numbers on the back of the block. The number came out to actually be a 430 with a casting of 1383424, so this could possibly mean that this block came in this car. I was told that it may have been a sweepstakes car of something but who really believes that? This is also the casting number for 67-69 430's. Man I hope its numbers matching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I was told the same thing in 1990 when I bought my 67 GS. Found out it was a 1969 Electra 430 engine. Check those numbers and the code will tell you what you have. Have fun with the car! Any pics?
