This is my current project working on between fixing my Riviera's supercharged nailhead. It is a dry lakes modified style roadster. Has a narrowed 32 Ford truck cowl and doors, 24 T back panel, 2 x 3 tubing frame, Model A front axle, 8-inch rearend, 53 Ford six and trans, 59 Ford truck steering column and box. Plus a bunch of other misc parts. Will have a laid back V-style windshield and i have a 53 Jaguar grill for it. I think at a later date it should get a nailhead, but for now the inline 6 is cool and was free. Just trying to build something fun to drive around and not for racing.

'69 GTX... this is my front line project right now since it's 85% ready for the road. As soon as I get the tranny and rear gears fixed (hopefully within a week or two) it'll be out there smoking out the bugs and teething pains.
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/tumbleweeds/images/69GTX/P8200001.jpg
This is my long term project... had it since high school and even though it's a Chevy... it's my reason for being here :) That... and I just really like this board! This used to be small Chevy powered with a "very angry cam" as another poster put it. But for its rebirth, it's getting a 455 I bought off of Jason Hise. I'm hoping to keep it a 4 speed car if I can find all the bits and pieces.
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/tumbleweeds/images/55Chevy/55_in_19861.jpg
And this one is my LONG long term project car. I'm really hoping to get some time on this one this winter. It needs EVERYthing. Even a chassis. Sorry to say it, but this one will probably be SBC powered. Unless my dad scores that 354 hemi for me :)

Didn't want to beat up the Buick fleet. This thing is a blast. It is the fastest car I have ever driven right off the showroom floor. It sounds like your are driving the Steve McQueen car in the movie Bullet. (Didn't want to say the M word). It is a shame Buick couldn't come out with something as wild.

Yes it is a Mustang. 91 GT Convertible.
I also drive my 1988 Mustang LX 5.0 5-speed T-Top car that I bought original in 1987. One of the last T roof cars ever built on a Mustang.
I hope this doesn't give everyone an even worse opinion of myself. But for a reliable piece of transportation. A 5.0 is a fun daily driver.

Also like the 440 coronet. There are a lot of good 'other cars' showing up. I'm all Buick, so won't be posting.

During the week I drive an '03 Windstar. My office is inside with all my computer crap(satellite). This is my weekend ride. It's a '97 F350 Powerstroke. It's my 4th one. Since I've been buying diesels, all my friends like me even more :Do No: Go figure. They call it the "sled". They all like it cause it's cheap on fuel when they want to get towed to the track.

Ok, I'm gonna try this, I haven't had much (any) luck posting pictures here. I reduced my file sizes, so here goes.
You guys will have to try and forgive me for having gone astray for so many years. The GS is my first american hot rod in a decade or so. Glad to be back:grin:
In the mean time, I've been running mostly German cars. First pic, my 1989 Porsche 928 GT. This is one of 53 known in the US and the only one with this color combo, Velvet Red over Linen White. This is my summer driver and road course racer. It ran a 13.7 @104 not bad for a 5.0L V8 in a 3500lb car.
In the background is my 3/4 ton Chev dura-pooch diesel crew cab.

Cool, It worked:TU: Here are a couple more.
This is my wife baby, 1998 BMW 750iL. This is the family limo. It is powered by a 5.4L V12 engine backed by a five speed auto. This car is almost obnoxiously swift and silent. It cruises the highways at 100mph without any clue for the passengers. The rear seats have more room than the fronts, and are heated, have power lumbar and power recliners. The wheels are BMW motorsport, 18" forged jobbies. The windows are double pane, I could go on and on.
Brent 71 GS455
09-30-2003, 01:30 PM
Lastly is my off-road tool, 1995 Mercedes-Benz Geleandewagon G320. This is the german Hummer. The pic is from Moab Utah, the obstacle is the "Golden Crack", a really big friggen hole you must cross to complete the trail. This thing is a TANK, solid axles on coil springs, factory differential lockers. Pretty much indestructible and a go anywhere machine. This year it got 33" MT tires and a 9500lb Warn winch in front. I am leaving this weekend for a week of off-roading with a group of these things in Colorado. Grey market truck, not imported by Mercedes until 2002 yet, in production since 1979.

First attempt at posting a pic, bear with me if it doesn't work...
My '84 GMC with a 74 455. All stock and getting a little tired for pulling cars around (170,000+). It still runs good though. I may swap this engine into a driver & build a stronger motor for towing over this winter.
The big oil mess is from a multitude of previous beaters, but this one does leak a little too.

10-07-2003, 11:11 PM
Cool, it worked. A little bigger than anticipated...
And yes, the seat is blue. The original brown one is out being recovered. I borrowed this one from a local junkyard.
Since the Olds enduro car didn't seem to get his desired response, how 'bout this one? Yep, I'm one of "those" guys. oooh - can feel the chill in the air already. In my defense, I don't expect the world's going to miss a Cavalier with a cracked head.

1973 Opel Manta A - found it in a barn. It has just run 11000 miles and has been stored since 1975 when it was crashed on the right side. I've replaced the fender, quarter-panel, door etc and this winter I'll be painting and assembling the car.. (and hopefully getting the engine turning again.. seized up =/... )
If anybody has any good tips please let me know, I'm currently trying with a wrench on the fan pulley to make it turn again but no luck.. (squirted lots of oil in the sylinders).

Here's my '77 Mercury Grand Marquis. I got it for a song, and it's in pretty mint shape! Only thing is that the 460 isn't very mileage friendly, so the car has been sitting for a little over a year. I've got plans to make it a nice cruiser, but only if the money knocks on the door. If someone knocks on my door and offers me money for it, I'd let it go, too...

Ha yea, thats what happened when I was parked on a hill and the guy feel asleep behind the wheel (was on medication, wasnt supposed to be driving). But on the plus side I was really lucky, I was just about to go move it, I probably would have died if I was in the car due to wiplash. I was right there when it happened, what a terrible sound. Man I'll never forget that day, or date, June 3rd 2003. I just started weeping, one of those first car things I guess. From then on whenever I was at my girlfriends if there wasnt room in their driveway I parked on the lawn or their neighbor was nice enough to say I could park in his driveway. Well thought Id tell me story.

This is a photo of my 68' IH 908 when I bought it. Since then I have put on factory 15x7 chrome IH wheels with 255/70/15 tires on it, and took off those awful mudflaps. It is in storage right now so I can't get a better photo. I hope to get to work on this after the Buick gets done. Last summer I put 5000 miles driving it to work (I got 14mpg). I also have a 92 rusty nissan sentra(35mpg work car) and 99 chevy Z-71 (boat puller), but they aren't worth taking photos of.

Just updating my other cars... got a job an hour and a half away from home making decent money and decided that I should probably get a new car... got rid of the Honda and became a REAL ricer... but at least its sorta quick. Just to quell the questions, the reason I got this over the equally quick Cobra is RWD vs. AWD... I drive a bit too much in poor weather and end up stuck in pretty bad snow storms that I certainly wouldn't have gotten out of in a RWD, 390hp/ftlb car.

I bought my 79 in 1996 for $850 (no rust) with a strong 455 in it as my daily driver. I drove it one year as a daily driver and averaged $400 a month on gas! Needless to say, I stopped driving it. My daughter thinks she will get it when she turns 16...NOT!!! I will have to replace the 455 with a 4cyl if that happens.... ;-)

heres the car we sold to get a muscle car
My grandpa was the 2nd owner, he got the car in 1980 and it was his weekend cruiser, he put goodyears on it when he got it and that was it, totally stock 500-2barrel with single exhaust, had a fiberglass boot.. or maybe it was metal, i dont remember, it had cool options on it, a/c white leather interior, headlight dimmers and weird gizmos like that. after he died in '93, it sat in our garage, not registered or anything, when we became serious about selling it, we had to get the ac fixed, so we were driving it down the road when suddenly we heard a flapping sound, the front driverside tire BROKE! it didnt split, pop, blowout, it plan broke, that was in 2002, and i miss that car sooo much!
all my friends called it the pimpmobile! maybe thats cuz it was longer than our suburban.. i think it was like 21 feet

I curently own two 1970's cars -- neither of which are Buick's. Hell -- they aren't even 'Merican.
I did own a 71 Stage 1 4-speed. Bought in 1975, rebuilt in 1979, sold in 1984 with a spare Muncie 4-speed for  $3200. Brown, w/brown vinyl, white buckets, mini-console and N-25 exhaust. Rebuild included Jahns, Crower (I think -- it's been too long) solid lift cam, :3gears: KB roller rockers, B4B, Holley 800 DP, Hooker, Hayes scatter shield, Mallory dual-point.
So, anyway here's my daily driver:
http://www.classicjaguar.com/CRAIGB4.jpg -- the rebuild -- down to the firewall -- summer 2001
http://www.classicjaguar.com/CRAIGB6.jpg -- new paint on the front 1/3
http://www.classicjaguar.com/cbreb9.jpg -- new custom shocks (x 6 -- the independent rear suspension has two on a side), torsion HD bars, HD sway bars and wiring harness
http://www.classicjaguar.com/89CB4.jpg -- the engine: before
http://www.classicjaguar.com/89CB5.jpg -- the engine: after. New custom headers, rebuilt carbs (x4), 12 x NEW everything else.
http://www.classicjaguar.com/89CB7.jpg -- from the back
That's a 71 XK-E V12 2+2. For those lamenting the cost of rebuilding a BBB 455, consider 12 pistons, 12 pistons sleeves, 24 valves (and all that goes with them) and the timing chain (overhead cams). There are 54 head studs and 21 radiator hoses: the coolant is routed through the oil pump. Cools the oil 45* at a cost of increasing the coolant 5*. Dual thermostats, dual electronic cooling fans
Next: finish the rebuild my 72 XK-E V-12 roadster.
And then -- -- a 70 or 71 Skylark or GS with TSP level 2A engine.
Craig
PS -- no, I not some rich a$$ho!e. Bought the V12 roadster in 1978 for $8,000 as a Captain in the Army. Bought the V12 2+2 in 1999 from my father-in-law for less than $4,000 as a LTC in the Army. Right place at the right tme.

do you ever wonder why a car manufacturer doesnt just stick with one really great body style? checker did it, VW did it, there have been cobra replicas built for ever. ford has kinda come back to that, and all the american companys are building cars with a "classic" car feel to them. but this is one body style that is definitly timeless! :TU: if i had to build a car based on an older style, this would very much be one of my choices. there is a guy driving around my town with a covertable. i wanna have his car and he can have a feather in a really nice place, but that is just me. you have a couple of great cars! :Brow:

Thanks for the kind words and for posting the image directly to the board.
One BIG caution about using these body shells for bigger engines. A popular trade-out over the years was to pull the Jaguar engine and replace it with a small block Ford or Chebby 350. Both options require modifying the frame rails. This involves cutting them to fit the engine dimensions and welding them back together. This is a NO GO. The frames are high strength, light weight aluminum that can not be welded -- the heat involved in brazing them weakens the integral strength of the metqal. The frames only support the engine, front suspension and the steering. :Smarty:

Yes it's an intercooler  :TU:
And yes, I have both a 400+ hp Buick and a 180SX with a large stainless steel exhaust. I have my favorite cars, each one is unique in it's own way. My 180's exhaust is mandrel bent 80mm (~3.25 inch) from the turbo all the way back with no cat converter. It's NOT just a stupid FART CAN welded on the back of a 1 7/8" stock exhaust system like all the posers/ricers in the US. Since the car is a turbo, an exhaust like this is actually NEEDED whereas 90% of the imports in America are NOT turbocharged and don't need much more than a 2" exhaust. Also turbo cars aren't usually as farty sounding because the turbo quiets and changes the exhaust tone down.
BTW the red car is faster than my Buick....I spent ~$6000 to get the Buick as fast as it is (14.1) and the red one went 14.3 stock! Bought the car for $1400 and invested about $2500 on the red one and never got to retest it at the track, but it was a lot faster than it's 14.3 run!!! :3gears:

Since a turbo relies on exhaust pulses to spin a turbine, unlike a supercharger that relies on a belt attached to the crank, the lower the backpressure behind the turbine vs. in front of it... the easier it is to spin that turbine. Basically you want a lot of hot exhaust pulses flowing rapidly in front of the turbine to get it to spin, and a large place to dump them once they get past the blades, hence the huge exhaust systems.

I have heard that they do boost milage, but as far as horsepower goes, they do a bit at higher RPM like on the highway. I'll find out soon enough though, and I will let you know what happens. I am getting 26mpg now, let's see what I get when I install the Tornado.

i would suppose that ...in theory, the idea is a pretty sound one. and especially in the upper rpm range where the most air is moving, the potential for utilizing more air/fuel mix just as in a turbo or blower makes sense...in theory, just like a velocity stack or ram tube.
on jim's cav, i am exploring the same changes for my beretta GT. got the ground effects last night [took two UPS guys to get them up to the house, i feel sorry for those UPS guys this time of year], put on the 16" GTZ wheels, installed a strut brace in the engine bay, installed a cold air intake and a bigger cat-back system. am doing some reading on various 'chips' available, everything from eprom chips to simple cold air sensor resistors. all VERY different from the tech i have learned to build up "OLD" hotrods :3gears:

Well, I am a member of a performance Cavalier forum, and according to the guys there, chipping a Cavalier is more or less a waste of time and money. You wind up only getting about .5HP boost, really not worth it. They suggeted cold air, and I came up with trying the tornado.... to see what that does before dropping about $3,600.00 for a Supercharger. I'm not looking to out run my Wildcat Convertible, that is highly unlikely, I just want to feel the power when I step on the gas, and perhaps beat my Green Goddess.

Looks like I need to get together before I need a walking cane to push in the clutch  , AL.

I just got my mini-beast running this weekend, I've spent a year doing the engine conversion and it's getting close to being done, I took this video yesterday CHECK IT OUT! (http://www.geocities.com/errrnstak/sr20.wmv) Tell me what you think and watch out if you ever see this car line up next to you!
I have to finish this project up quick too because the car has to get shipped to Texas within the next month! All June and July I'll have to be driving my Buick Sport Wagon as a daily driver until this one arrives, that's gonna hurt with those insane gas prices back there. I can't wait to show people back in the US what's up, you can't really race much in Japan.

Hey everyone - I'm new here. Found the site searching for nailhead information as I am looking at a 1957 Century. My first car was a '57 Special I got from my grandfather which had seen better days but I thought it was fantastic. Unfortunately it was (1) a 4-door post, (2) my dad burned up the Dynaflow towing his Travelall and (3) what was left of it got filled with ash from Mt. St. Helens in 1980. But I recently saw a Century 2-door HT so am working on a replacement...
In the meantime here's my "other cars" - as you can see I need a 4 seater so why not go with a classic??
Cheers
Kevin
Note: Mustang is in storage in Sydney Australia - other three are here in LA.

its an 81 CB900F [yeah, i know, wrong tank decal] that has only about 20K on it. the original bike was silver/blue and was pretty much a derelect. now it is charcoal metalic and i am in the process of adding CB1100F wheels, sticky bridgestone battlaxes, looking for some decent stuff to add to the rear suspension [already installed progressive fork springs, telefix brace, 10wt fork oil]. i probably wouldnt put this bike on a car site. but oddly enough, i happen to know that there are more than a few bike guys on here that may appreciate this little toy :bglasses:

I pinched pennies for months because I wanted a new Mustang soooo freakin' bad. Well, $30,000 for a no-optioned V8 with a lousy 3-year 36,000 mile warranty stinks some bad so I bought this Duster on Ebay. I already spent all my Mustang money on the engine! Guess I need more Mustang money to make it stop too.
Consequently, this guy will sport a 225+ (bored) slant six, shaved/ported head, dual carb Offy intake (two Holley one-barrels), Clifford headders, and either an Erson or Comp Cam in the neighborhood of high 260 or low 270.

Hans, very cool. I bet they'll be a big hit back home.
I miss the days when cars had politically incorrect names like Apache or Chieftan. Indian head pennies and nickels, cigar store indians, all that kind of stuff.
I just shipped a car from Japan to USA for about $1500 "roll on and roll off". Just curious whether that's a similar price from USA to Europe?

In reality, my 67 buick special is my "other" car. My main car is my 65 mustang, with a 302 backed by a 3spd and 8inch rear end. I hope to get a 5spd in there shortly, though i've been meaning to do it for awhile now..... Another one of my vehicles is my 1990 jeep wagoneer, which was my daily driver for awhile. (retired for the summer, will be back for the winter) The other cool cars in my life are my brothers 74 camaro, which has a 350 backed by a 3spd auto. (TH-350 i believe....) and my step dads 66 impala SS convertible, which has been under restoration for roughly nine years now! The body still needs to be worked, though the frame is looking good now. (if you look in the pic of the frame, you can see the front of the impala body) It will have a 327 with a 2spd powerglide trans. I put the engine and trans in there when i was bored, though it will need to be taken apart to put the flex plate and torque converter in.

Hi Mike, shipping a truck from Los Angeles to Gothenburg cost me about $1,500 in a container. A car would be around $1,300. What kind of car did you ship out of Japan? I know that some American cars go from Europe to the US but they are usually high dollar cars in perfect condition.

Hi Rob, I bought the truck before I went to the US in April. First I did drive it to a friend of mine in Portland, Or passing Idaho and Washington. Man, was there snow up in the mountains :eek2: , even more than here in Sweden.
I bought my Ford truck in Portland and a friend of mine and myself drove the two trucks down from Portland to Los Angeles and then they were shipped to Sweden.
It was a long drive but it was a blast and I enjoyed the trip very much. The ´61 Chev has always been one of my favorite trucks and finally I got one. :TU:
