Ok someone slashed my tires :( Guess it's time to pull the tarp off and get this thing back on the road.

I've seen a thread on this wheel and I love it. However it will be going on a 70 'Lark convertible. Black with a white top. I want 16x7's but its only made in 16x8's :(

( I had a link here to the Jeg's website for the Ion 625, black. But I don't have 10 posts yet.)

with 245/50R16's all the way around. Will this rub? I've seen threads with 17's running 275's but they have a lot more backspacing. The offset on these is only -5mm, but comes in -12mm too.

I'll get some pictures when the car is less embarassing ;)

Offset and back spacing are not the same. The most important thing is to keep the over all diameter of the tire/wheel combination the same or as close to stock as possible. Bigger wheels require a shorter side wall to keep the over all diameter the same. Stock tires were about 26.6" tall. The P245/50R-16 is 25.6" tall, a full 1" shorter. You need something taller. If the back spacing is correct and the height is stock or even a bit bigger, it won't rub. The 70 cars had big wheel wells. In the front, a 255 tire will be fine. You can fit a 275 or bigger tire in the rear. 8" wide wheels like about 4.5" of back spacing. A 10" wide wheel will want 5.5" or slightly more back space. The stock 15 X 7" wheels had about 4.25" of back space.

Thanks for the reply!:gp:

Taking your input and doing some more research, I'm thinking about jumping to 17x7's with 0mm offset (converts to 4" backspacing) with 255/45R17s.

The drop of .25" of BS from stock will push the wheels out a tad from stock for a wider appearance but still keep them well under the wheel well.

The tires will be 26.1", 1/2" shorter (accuracy loss of 1.2%) but I want to lower this car a tad (Eibach springs lower 1.3") anyway. I really want to the same size all the way around so I can rotate them.

Will this be OK or am I forgetting something?

Scratch that. 255's are too wide for 17x7s. I really don't want to spend the extra $44/rim to get the 17x8s. Hmm.

Just a suggestion -
You may want to consider who/why your tires got slashed and possibly find yourself a new place to park before you start spending serious money on new rims and tires. I would hate to hear that you spent upwards of a thousand dollars on a new combo just to get them slashed again.

255's fit fine on a 15 X 7 wheel. They will fit fine on a 17 X 7 wheel. A wider wheel is always preferable because it gives the tire more support and pulls the sidewalls in less.

I couldn't find the slash, but it was weird that 4 cars in my apartments parking lot all had flats one morning and there haven't been any before or after that.

The only thing in common were that all the cars were black.

[how do I quote a second post?]

To Larry: Tirerack.com says the rim width range is 8-9.5" I'm thinking the only noticeable difference will be that the tire will wear more in the middle of the tread from the sidewalls being tugged on more.

Did you try airing them back up? Maybe some kids just let the air out and didn't actually slash the tires.

Yep. You can hear the leak... I shouldn't be too mad, all the tires are bald (except the one that doesn't hold air anymore).

Ah ok.

FWIW, I had my tires on my Charger slashed last November, along with some other pretty nasty body damage courtesy of some vandals. I had less than 4000 miles on the tires too. However, I had purchased them at a Firestone Service Center, and turns out their road hazard warranty actually covers vandalism. :)

That's worth looking into. I'm probably getting them from Discounttiredirect.com... I'll look and call before I do the final order. Thanks again guys.
