1968 skylark wheel/tire size options

Hey all, Havent been on here in a long time.. getting ready to put my Buick away for the winter and have lots of time to sit in front of the computer and dream of parts ;)

First, whats the lug pattern on these cars? Second, since the rear fender wells are not "round" i know i can't fit a very wide wheel under there. Can some people let me know what wheel size, width, back spacings and tire sizes you are running on your '68-'69 skylarks with pic back up? Thanks!:beers2:

Bolt pattern is 5x4.75" or 5x120.7mm in metric terms. The fact that the fender wells are not round doesn't matter. You don't want the tires sticking out beyond the fender anyway. Take some measurements of the front and back spacing using an L-square and a tape measure, making sure you account for potential interference such as control arms, sway bars, exhaust pipes, etc.

Good info.. txsqueeze do you have more pics of your car? I can't really tell anything from the avitar. Anyone else? I'm definatly going with AT LEAST a 15" wheel.. maybe larger if i can find something i like on the car. Keep em coming :)

I run 16x8's w/225 60 R16's on my 68 with a 4.5 backspacing.

Those look nice squeezed in there. What kind of shaving or rolling did you have to do...I always thought the 295 was about the max with the stepchildren without some mini tubbing.

Thanks guys. I had to trim some metal off of the outside wheelwell lip, inside has plenty of room. like an inch. I wasnt really worried about trimming because the openings had been trimmed previously. I plan on lowering the car, and a mini-tub for an even more aggressive look. I will have to wait til I get the 4" exhaust and the new motor (LS-1) before I do that. Will soon have a 350 with a small cam and mild head work with a poston intake for sale!:Brow:

Friend of mine has 68 GS350 and he just bought new rims and tires the 68 has a Chevelle 12bolt and the 255/60/15 tire were the widest he could fit in there.
This was with 15x8 rims and 3.75 offset

Well oddly enough JEGS has a wheel finder application, they list the 68/69 and its a vert to boot so a side view of the car shows up and then you pick your color, pick your wheels, pick your drop. Fun if you haven't seen it already:
