Hi all
I have question about the steering box on my 55
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g49/baker1972/new%20stuff/MASTER001.jpg
I removed the cap
I shinned a flash light down in to the box, I did not see any fluid only some black looking grease, but otherwise the box looks empty!
Is this correct? should this be full of grease or gear oil or trans fluid?
The power steering res is full.
Thanks for any help , I've been learning lots from this board
Cheers Will :3gears:

Hey Will, its Wil. Dont tell anyone, but I run 140 weight CAT gear lube in mine. I have some around sinse I worked heavy Equip all my life b4 getting crushed, "heavy equip can do that to yu". I think a lot of guys run lite grease because the older rigs were'nt sealed as tight. Personally I would run either, it cant hurt unless you go reeffin on it in extremely cold weather -30 or colder. If you are running the orig box, it will take it.
Hope that helps, As always, no warranty is expressed or implied LOL !!!

It shouldn't be completely full. You should have enough in there, so that, you can see it from the hole.
The hydraulic oil from the pump and the steering box are different circuits. No oil from the pump goes into the steering box.
If, you don't have a 55 Buick shop manual, you need one. They are available on E-Bay.
