Is there something you put on the weather striping around the doors to keep it from freezing shut? WD-40? Our first freezing rain and my doors won't open! :spank:

Tub of hot water from the sink should do the trick when they're frozen shut. I used to do it to my windshield all the time, until it got a rock chip that started working it's way across my daily driver.

I've used pure silicone before. I wouldn't try WD-40 or anything else with solvents in it.

Hot water is bad and can crack your windows if there are small flaws there (fast expansion and contraction,) and then it will make things worse when that water freezes.
Try a small amount of vaseline, have the same problem on my old ladies VW, works like a champ and keeps you from tearing the stripping when pulling the door open.

Spray them with PAM from your cupboard. It's a grease for pans, and it works great !

just don't get the WD-40 and PAM confused, or Pledge and Air Freshener!:beer

That's what I've done as well. My car seems to prefer the butter flavored.:bla:

I wipe on a little bit of petroleum jelly from the dollar store and it works great.
Then I just clean it off with window cleaner(also from the dollar store) and newspaper in the spring.

I aint cheap, Im just thrifty.

A little Armoral, 303, or any of the silicone based protectants will prevent rubber door and window seals from sticking. Spray, or wipe a liberal amount on, wipe excess off, and also treat the mating surface too, and you should be good to go all season. I've have used warm water to free doors frozen in freezing rain, but you do run the risk of damaging the glass ! :TU:

What i would suggest is put a for sale sign on your house and move to arizona, i think that'll work really good, and thats what i'm going to do:moonu: ...

Rivman, Hope your staying warm in Ottawa, we are freezin our butts off up here in the north, but the Riv is resting in a warm garage for the winter, merry christmas Rivman, waiting to see the Hemmings article of your car:TU: ....

Yeah really! My wife's grandmother cooked some wings in the oven one evening, and it smelled like a chemical.. turned out she used pledge instead of Pam!

Being from north of the border, Id go with a good rub with armor-all

Start putting an oily product on like Pam, Vaseline, WD 40 etc and you're going to get it on your clothes as you get in and out and that will only cause you more trouble when your wife has to send everything out for dry cleaning.

Weather stripping? What weather stripping? :pp

I miss having a late '60s A-body, door rubber didn't cost over $500.

I use the gm weatherstrip lube, works good. Plus instead of hot water if something gets stuck, you can use alcohol (99% pure, not the premixed stuff which is 50% water) to melt the ice. it won't hurt paint (it will take your protectant off though).

The pam on the snow shovel I've never heard of before, have to try that out!

Anything 99% is for drinking (the clear stuff!) Then you don't care about the snow anymore.

If it's methyl hydrate, he'll never have to worry about ever seeing the snow again, or the car for that matter...

Quick tip on a related topic; - on pure very cheap domestic Russian vodka knock in a bit of pepper, and don't drink the heel as it is pure methyl hydrate and make you blind.

But, back to the weatherstrip problem; - vaseline works best, never tried the Pam...we usually don't get freezing rain or sticky wet snow, just acres of cold dry stuff.

Pepper, huh? I'll keep that in mind. I usually only have Smirnoff vodka. I keep it in the freezer. Right, next to the Crown Royal.:Brow:

Here, in Birmingham, I remember having enough snow to shovel, three times only;
April 1988
March 1992
March 1993
You can't believe it, here in Alabama, March 1993; We got 24" inches of snow. It was a lightning and thunderstorm, with snow. The lightning through the snow was green. The snowflakes were 3" wide. And, nobody with a snow shovel in the whole state.
