View Full Version : Brake Shoe Adjusters

The star brake shoe adjuster on my front brakes tightened easily but now they won't back off. Soaked it overnight with penatrating oil, is there something preventing it from loosening or is it just stuck?

I am more fimilar with the 68-72 a- bodies, but I would think there is a self adjuster arm that prevents you from turing the star adjuster back unless you move the arm out of the way.

Theres a lever that prevents the star wheel from "retracting" therefore backing off the shoes. There should be a rubber plug on the backing plate, remove the plug and get a skinny screwdriver in behind the lever to raise it off the starwheel.

It looks something like this. You have to push the lever away from the star wheel so it disengages and allows you to turn the wheel.
