This will probably sound really weird to most folks, but hopefully, not to the folks reading this Forum…
As some of you know, I bought my first car, a 70 GS 455, in 1983, from the original owner. It is Burgundy Mist, black vinyl top, blk buckets and console, tach and gauges, whitewalls and “volcano” Deluxe Wheel Covers. I ordered documentation from Wayne Roberts to “prove” that my car was an original hubcap car, since every time I go to an event people try to sell me sport wheels, to which I can only reply “It’s an original hubcap car.” They generally just look at me like I’m nuts and walk away. Today I got my documentation from Wayne Roberts. The documentation verified the long gone rear speaker, the blue wire for which I had discovered during the restoration last summer. Page Three included “Option F-9 Wide Oval White Billboard Lettered Tires G70-14.” Hmmm, raised white letters and hubcaps…. Well that is actually how I bought the car… Time to order some Polyglas tires…
Further down the arrow hit. “Option V-2 Chrome Plated Wheels.”
I am stunned. One of my favorite things about my car has always been the hubcaps. I’m going to keep them, but I hate not having the documentation!!!
Back at the 20th anniversary I was considering trying to contact the original owner, just to say “Hey, 20 years later I still have, and love, the car.” Now, I NEED to contact him to find out the deal with the wheels!
Stolen in the 70’s? Swapped for “sleeper” effect? Now I HAVE to Know!!
My previous 68 conv, blue, blue int, wht top (the rarest 68 conv interior, per the new Build Sheet) was a documented hub cap car (had the build sheet), but I put sport wheels on it (don’t like 68 hubcaps.) WHERE’S THE JUSTICE!!!!
OK, make me feel bad. Anyone with a documented hub cap car who has put on sport wheels, speak up.
Anyone have a documented hub cap, Burgundy Mist/blk top blk bucket w/console, tach and gauges 70 455 car to trade? (only half kidding)
