Trim 698 = black vinyl bucket seats
289 following the build location (Flint) is the body serial number
I'll take a stab at the accessories based on my order form from the Sloan museum:
ES (E5?) = carpet savers only
2ZR = ???
3E (33?) = Optional wheel color
4U = ???
5W (W5?) = Hi performance engine (425 w/dual quads - Flint only)

Steve-
I know that they are hard to read, but see what the numbers and letter are in the upper left corner of the data plate. That will be the body build month/week.
The F8 that you see is really FB (Fisher Body). The number after that is the sequence number of the body. That makes this car body number 289. Very early production in the '64 model year (probably built in Sept, of '63).
The style number is the model year (64) followed by the body style, as you figured out.
The accessory codes are only those options that the Fisher Body plant needed to know about when they built the body for Buick. I don't have any experience with '64.

2Z automatic trans
3E lower crash pad
4U exterior moldings
5W seat belts with retractors
Hope this helps :3gears: ,

Thanks for all the help.
Question ..... is there a code for the positraction axle and the 2x4 kx engine? :pp I know the Rivi guys have the codes broken down well. I have a 67 sport wagon with a posi and could not find the posi in the fire wall codes.

the rear and engine codes are not on the data plate
the engine is easy to confirm if its the original
it will have a KX code and the serial # will match the cars vin.
if it is not a KX block it did not come with the dual quads from the factory
if the serial # does not match it did not come in that car.....
the rear you could open it up and check the tooth count or you can jack the car up and turn the tire 1 complete rotation and count how many times the drive shaft turns(drive shaft turns almost 3 and a half should be 3.42 etc....)but this only works on a posi rear (both tires should spin in the same direction when you spin them)
hope this helps

A posi is not part of the body assembly.
