Hello out there! I guess you could say I'm about as new as new can be to this but here goes... After searching high and low for a unique 50's car to hotrod I fell in love with and just bought a 57 Special, complete with it's original nailhead. Originally, I'd planned on transplanting a 427 Chevy in it that I have at my disposal, but after doing a little soul searching, (It just seems wrong to steal the engine away from the car after all these years) I'm thinking I should do up the nailhead. But man, I don't know a darn thing about them, or where I can get a decent cam, pistons, intake, etc.. nor what I might have when I'm done. But I do know that it sure would be a much more challenging and interesting project!
My vision for the 57 is for it to be a reliable street rod that can hold its own and turn some heads. (It's all about having some fun and escaping from the everyday grind.) The car is a pretty basic unit, with an excellent body and interior, decent trim (I'll replace what isn't) with the only outstanding (rare) feature being a/c. That's it, I sure could use some advise on the Nailhead, such as parts sources, what can be done with it, (I think it's a 364), and what makes it different/the same as a 401, 425, benefits/drawbacks, etc.. Thanks!
