UPDATE 8/12/11: I have confirmed that for FREMONT cars, the numbers on the cowl tag after the build date show are unique to that car, and show up on the build sheet. This is useful to tie the car to the build sheet when the build sheet is missing the very top right corner (Boxes 8 & 9, Fisher Body #, and VIN), but shows the numbers in Box 24.
The cowl tag will have two sets of 6 digits, like: 123456 654321
The build sheet in Box 24 will have 123456 XX 4321 (the XX is still unknown)
The build sheet in Box 10 will have 65 (before the date)
I know that this will help, especially for '71 cars without official records. It also appears that virtually every Fremont car will have a build sheet on top of the fuel tank; and likely other copies in areas such as the seats, package tray, dash, inside door panels, under carpet.

Hello,
Some of you may have seen my other posts, I have a scrap of a build sheet for my '71 GS that I am decoding, and also curious about the numbers at the bottom of my cowl tag.
For my build sheet, the numbers shown in the upper right corner, looks like Box 24: DF SEQ NO, are 5-digits, 2-digits, and then 4-digits. The 5-digit number number and the 4-digit number correspond to the stamped numbers on my cowl tag!
Please respond to this thread or by PM, if you have a Fremont build sheet with legible numbers in the upper right corner, and a cowl tag with numbers stamped at the bottom.
Thanks in advance,
Steve

Halfmoontrail,
I have a Fremont car and found the build sheet on top of the gas tank several years ago. I will check it out tonight at home and get back to you.

Steve here is the upper RH corner of one of the buildsheets from our '72 Stage 1 HT, along with a photo of the body tag. The "DP SEQ NO" on the buildsheet is 149278 and matches with a number on the bottom row of the cowl tag. The body #, and the VIN of course are also in the upper RH corner of the sheet.

I have a Fremont car, and got the build sheet, pretty legible, from under the rear seat when I had the seats reupholstered...and threw it out. :spank:
The one on top of the tank is a goner, due to pinhole leaks from where the back window leaked water into the trunk. Or so I think. I'll be dropping the tank one of these days to fix the sender, which reads -Empty on the gauge.

Steve E., your build sheet is a big piece to a big puzzle. W know know what day Buick changed to the side post battery cables. At least in Freemont. It was April 5 1971. Your build sheet shows you have top psot spring rings. The other full 71 builc sheet shown in another post has the same build date and it has side posts. Your is build sequence car 16 I think and the other was 55. Imagine they used both types on the same day.

Not sure if this will help - but I've got a larger version. I found a photocopy I made prior to selling the car.

That's great! Please see my update in the first post to this thread. This gives those of us with '71s (at least from Fremont), with another tool for authentication.
I appreciate your time in checking these numbers.

No problem Dave,
I sold the car around 8 years ago, but must have made a copy before shipping it out to New Jersey. Did you notice it was a bucket seat car w/o a console?

That's sort of strange. I seem to remember it having one on it when I bought it. But I replaced it with a heavy duty one and a fan with more blades. It was really loud until it disengaged.
It's somewhere in New Jersey these days.
